When the trade is completed, Atlanta and Houston will flip-flop first-round picks in April's draft, and Atlanta will receive Houston's second-round picks in 2007 and 2008. The deal will be announced Thursday. Houston has the No. 8 pick in the first round of the draft, while Atlanta is slotted 10th.

Sure its a risk as a player, but even in the off chance Vick gets a career-ending injury next year and gets cuts, he still gets $16 million. If he doesn't, (the more likely scenario) he clears $16 million and then gets his long-term contract (assuming he isnt a one-hit wonder)

It's basically a question of, do you want 16 mil guaranteed right now or 30-50? Next year may not come. It's not a good deal for the player. You don't get franchised unless you are worth the price and then some

This is all IF the franchise tag even still exists after the new CBA is all done and signed off on. I think for Philly, the tag would be a last resort scenario. The reason Philly can afford both Vick and Kolb is because Kolb's number is damn low next year, also a reason why they sure as hell won't be trading him unless for maximum assets and draft picks. Basically Kolb and Vick will be switching situations completely going into 2011. This year, Kolb enters as the starter and a rich amount, Vick the backup and having a great deal. Next year, it'll be vice versa.

I'd personally be shocked if Vick got away from Philly

Trade Kolb to the Cardinals.

Here's more reason why Vick won't want to be franchised...

According to Munson's reporting:

* Two-thirds of every dollar Vick makes goes to creditors or taxes.

* The plan calls for total payments to his creditors of $12 million between now and 2015, and is based on his signing a large free-agent contract. That could wait, pending the outcome of negotiations between the league and the player's union. The Eagles could use the franchise tag on Vick for next season.

* He is allowed to spend $3,500 for rent in Philadelphia, and another $750 for utlities and miscellaneous expenses.

* He must pay $3,712 per month for the mortgage on a home he owns in Virginia and is allowed $1,355 monthly for private school for his children.

* He has a $472 per month car allowance.

* Vick's mother is limited to $2,500 per month, a sharp drop in the money she previously made on her son's payroll. He also pays $3,000 in support for a former girlfriend and his son.

* Vick also faces a lawsuit from the court-appointed trustee who is trying to recover money, including about $5 million that Vick gave away to family and friends before he went to prison. xYdKZ
