All I'm seeing is:

1. Jeter is old and washed up.

2. The Yankees are offering him a shitload more than he's worth, and tons more than any other team would give him.

3. Somehow this is viewed as disrespectful to the face of the franchise because they're offering him 3x what he's worth instead of 4x.

It's not disrespectful, it just doesn't make any sense to start being more responsible with this guy.

When Jeter was young, he got a big contract. Now he is old, and they don't think he will be good anymore.

As was mentioned on ESPN First Take, the Yankees are making it publically known that if Jeter walks, it was his choice and it wasn't like the Yankees gave him an overpaying offer anyway for him to stay.

I think from reading Jeter is wanting four years instead of three. Personally I would give it to the man. He's been a Yankee his whole career and he's helped bring five championships to that franchise. But then again, I'm not looking at it from a business point-of-view.

I wonder why don't the Yankees try $48 million for 4 years.. That is $12 mill a year and Jeter will get the 4th year he wants. Yankees will make back that money EASILY, it is like pocket change to them. Now of course, if Jeter is trying to get 4th year AND a raise from the $15 mill offered per season then let him walk. It is not reasonable for him to get both things. Both sides have to sacrifice something to make it work. Jeter needs to understand that he is not the same as he was 10 years ago or even 3 seasons ago, he has to be willing to sacrifice something to be a 'team-player' moneywise. Plus, it isn't like he doesn't make money from other places. He has companies laying down to get him on those promos.

Jeter is expecting $20 million because ARod is making $20 million. He doesn't show it, but he is extremely jealous of him.

Very true. I just wish Jeter would look at this output last season and see his .270 average isn't worth that much. As you said he's not what he was 10 years ago. Even 5 years ago.

If the Yanks keep him, it keeps that massive hole on the left side of the Yankees' infield.

Win-win for the Jays.

And he hasn't been a good defensive SS since 2003.

I bet if you listened to Yankees' games "Past a diving Jeter!" would be one of their most common phrases.

They could pay him 35 million a year it wouldn't matter from a business perspective. They print money with that franchise. He is the face of their renaissance. There's no excuse not to. Who cares if he's a 20 million dollar mascot in the final year. It's ridiculous to not pay him.

Jeter should probably take the deal (it sounds pretty good to me), but he's made far more money for the franchise than they've given him, even though his cumulative salary has been substantially. They built a new stadium! And how they're handling it seems pretty underhanded.

And to think of all the money they've given useless pigs like Carl Pavano.

If the Red Sox are dumb enough to offer him a salary, then by all means he can take it.
- Yankees can get by with Nunez next year
- Yankees will go after Hanley Ramirez the year after
- Jeter will throw away all his goodwill with NY, and can say good bye to having his number retired
