Default Zach Randolph wants extension, but no talk is ongoing

Memphis power forward Zach Randolph leaned in close after he heard the question, making sure his answer came with a point of emphasis. Like from three inches away. This contract extension is something he feels strongly about. "I want to do it now,'' he told FanHouse Friday before his Grizzlies lost to the Magic, 89-72, in Orlando. "Sooner the better. If we don't do it now, there are a lot of other teams out there who like me.'' Fanhouse

Unfortunately, he said there have been no recent discussions. The Grizzlies, the last time they talked, were thinking considerably less money, rumored to be in the three-year, $40 million range. "I'd like to get it out of the way, but they (his agent and the Grizzlies) aren't really talking right now, at least not that I know of,'' he said. "And that's disappointing. I like playing for this team. I want to stay with this team. I'm a blue-collar player in a blue collar town, and it's a good fit. I'm in my prime, and we all know it's a business, too.'' Fanhouse

The team has potential with the development of Gasol, Mayo, and maybe even mike conley still.

If Zach Randolph keeps putting steady numbers, but the team keeps losing, there will be no reason to keep him unless they are using him to rebuild until they feel they are better off without him.

I've never seen Z-Bo as the guy that takes you far in the post season. I don't ever see him winning a championship either. I feel that he is just coming in, putting up 20-10, and then going home. He's a good "rebuild" player to have, but not a good leader to take you to that point you can only dream of being in.

The guy is a beast who easily gets 15-20 pts and 10 or so boards a game. They better lock him or they will lose him and a very talented and important cog of their young team.
