Good read.

Its not as simple as Wizards saying "We void your contract" and poof its gone.

meh. All it says is that the only argument Arenas would have is that there are separate provisions for firearm infractions.

The firearm provision only covers possession anyways. Gilbert didn't merely possess a firearm, he pointed it at a teammate and threatened him. The firearms provision shouldn't even apply based on the circumstances.

I think it could have, and should have been done.

I'm going to defend Joe Johnson by saying his poor start this year, and terrible finish last year, was due to injury. I will go further by saying he will come back healthy and earn his contract. Of course, I do not believe a word of this, but I am hopeful ATL can do SOMETHING in the playoffs this year.

How many contracts have been voided in the games history?

How many players (with a ridiculous K) hold a gun to their teammate's face?

They didn't put guns to each other's faces. They merely "showed" them to each other.

Overreact much?

Wizards have lawyers, advisors and I'm pretty sure they thought long and hard about what could come of voiding Gilbert Arenas contract. Thus decided not to go that route. And for good reason.

You are the GM of the Wiz. What would have you done?

Seeked a trade. Knowing trading him this past offseason would be difficult. I'd let him showcase his game during the season in hopes a team bites. A team that wants a change. Then I proceed to make a deal.

If it were me, I would have tried to make a trade, but I doubt any team would want him. I'd void his K and offer him a new one for what his real value is. If he didn't accept, let him sign somewhere else. Goodbye crazy PG with crazy large K.

I live in MD and he is very popular with the fans here. Even when he has a crap game the fans are reluctant to criticize him. The team had been garbage for a long time before he came.

The Hawks' choice was to sign Joe and his 20ppg and be over the cap, or not sign Joe and his 20ppg and still be over the cap. In addition, Al Horford probably doesn't re-sign. So the Hawks would go from the 3rd or 4th best team in the east, to having to rebuild while in salary cap jail. Ask NY how that feels.
