Default How are the Pats not #1 in ESPN Power Rankings?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings...r/2010/week/14

After destroying the Jets in week 13 the Pats are still ranked #2 behind the Falcons. The Patriots have beat the Jets, Steelers, Ravens, Colts, Chargers, etc.

I see them as the clear number 1, but I am a Pats fan so I may be biased, that is why I am looking for some response from impartial fans.

I don't agree with their rankings, but the Falcons at number 1 probably has something to do with the fact that they have a longer winning streak than the Pats.

If you go back and look at the past weeks, you can see where the Falcons moved into the top spot. Since they haven't lost, ESPN is not going to move them.

You do make a valid point here.

However in power rankings there should be other things considered. The Falcons beat Tampa Bay 28-24 this week. Going into the game Tampa Bay was ranked 13. The Pats beat the Jets 45-3 and going into the week the Jets were ranked #3

ESPN's power rankings are really awful in general...although this deep in the season, everyone's rankings start to merge together for the most part...

doing my own rankings this year I noticed that in MANY occasions a team ranked very high on ESPNs power rankings would be Vegas underdogs to a team they were playing that is very low on their board...that means they are flawed

imo power rankings should go directly in line with Vegas odds as if they were to play on neutral turf and should NOT take record into account so much, rather just the team's actual "power" so to speak...records can be very misleading...

if the Pats and Falcons played on neutral turf, I do believe the world would have the Falcons as underdogs, thus they shouldn't be ranked above the Pats...

would ANY team be a favorite to the Pats on neutral?...no, so they should be #1

that is how I tried to do mine...

Who cares about espn power rankings anyway. Elementary criteria. People who follow football and the season as it has gone on know who are the top teams in the game.

It's a big conspiracy it plays right into the hands of those that let a set of power rankings get them worked up and mad.

We'll know who the #1 team in the NFL is by February. Have patience.

yeah, ESPN does it for attention, and maybe they do purposely add "shock" to it for that reason...internet hits...

power rankings are meaningless although they are great for debate reasons...even people who think they are NFL gurus can disagree on who is better than who...
