These guys are just incredible, they're capable of growing enormous lengths, and they can sustain hypoxic (low oxygen) conditions in water for extremely extended periods of time. Not to mention Jack Johnson used to eat these badboys to increase his legendary libido.
water itself is not a conductor.
what it is though, is an excellent solvent(its known as teh universal solvent) to dissolve minerals , and therefore make a conducting solution.
water is rarely found pure though, so that is why its usually believed to be a conductor.
