Default How many STAR PG under 6'6 have won a title in last 40 years?

Was it Isiah? If so, it proves it's a big man's game.

It's true, it is a big men's game. Championship caliber teams need to have a post-presence. Lakers have Gasol (Even though Kobe is the better player) and had Shaq. Spurs have Mr. Fundamental. Heat had Shaq. Detroit had the dual presence of Rasheed and Wallace. Then theres Hakeem. The only exception the last 20-30 years, where a team has not won without a post presence that was either dominating on the defensive or offense end was Jordan's teams.

With the amount of elite guards, especially at the 1-position this year, it'll be interesting to see how the league pans out this decade.

Here's to hopin the Bulls win one, or two.. or more

Good point guards are rarely stars in the way that wing players and dominant big men are, so there are just fewer of them. Plus PG is really the only stand-alone position, so it is tough to compare to others. If we compare PGs on championship teams to secondary wing players (the lesser player among the starting SG/SF) or to secondary big men (the less player among the starting PF/C), things would look a lot different.

how many teams have won with poor guard play

it proves that its a team game, to win a championship its generally the team with the least weakness rather than the most strengths

you cant really have any holes, if you want to win a championship, anywhere on the court

Why the cutoff at 40 years?

When did I say teams can win with poor guard play? It just shows it's much more difficult to win as a star PG than a star PF/C. i.e. Duncan, Shaq, Gasol, KG, etc...

He's absolutely right ... you just have to think about it logically.

If basketball is a game about throwing a ball in a cylinder ... the closer you are to the cylinder the easier it is to score ... so you want to control the area directly underneath the cylinder.

The closer you are to the cylinder ... the taller you have to be.

A great point will dominate the court 20 feet away from the rim ... a great post will dominate the area 4 feet around the basket ... give me those 4 feet ... and you can have the other 90 ... I'm going to win 9 out of 10 times.

yes

the lack of true dominant big these days just means that once a dominant big show up, they'll just sweep the league and make all these guards for mvp conversations irrelevant

howard is not there yet, still too limited offensively

Better question, how many starting PG's in the league are even 6'6 or taller?
