Sony has unveiled a new Uncharted ahead of its big reveal at this weekend's VGA Awards, with first details confirming that Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception takes the wise-cracking hero to the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula.
Although the official reveal won't be coming until Saturday night's awards ceremony, Entertainment Weekly has gone live with its first impressions of the game, again developed by Naughty Dog.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is said to focus on the relationship between Sully and Drake as the pair search for a lost city in the Arabian Peninsula and across the Rub' al Khali Desert. T.E Lawrence is said to be an inspiration for the story and setting.
"When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone's eyes light up here and go, 'Yeah, that's going to be really hard — let's do it!'" said the game's creative director Ann Henning.
"We're a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we've never tapped into before," added Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception's new features include the ability to fight multiple enemies as well as 'enhanced backward climbing' – though quite how that pans out remains to be seen.
While no specifics were given, the report also states that much attention is being paid to Uncharted 3's online and co-op features.
A teaser trailer accompanying the reveal shows the new desert setting. "All men dream," says the Nolan North-voiced Nathan Drake, "but not equally".
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves proved to be one of the PlayStation 3's greatest games, earning IGN's Game of the Year in 2009.
I'm a PS3 owner and I haven't even played a second of either Uncharted game. That's not right is it?
They just don't seem like games that would be worth a buy for me. When it comes to single player games, I need depth and length (that's what she said). Games like Dragon Age or New Vegas. I would never dish out full price for a game like God of War 3, even though it's probably an amazing experience. I know the multiplayer on U2 was good but it seems late to get into it now.

Shame on you! I understand what you mean though. I own the games you mentioned on my PS3 instead of 360 coincidentally. It's hard to shell out 60$ for a game if you won't play it a bunch. Uncharted 2 was the 1st game I bought when I bought my PS3. I've yet to play the 1st but the 2nd was one of the most amazing game experiences I've ever had. Everything was so crisps and it felt like playing an action movie. The multiplayer was different and that made it really fun to me. I've also played the campaign over a few times and enjoyed it. I'd suggest giving them both a shot though to see what the hype is about.

you get much more out of 8 hours of uncharted than you get out of 30 hours of dragon age. you have to cop both now, or stop playing video games. 2 is one of the best ever made.
Looking forward to the new Uncharted. I hope they can improve and expand the multiplayer too. They did a pretty good job at it for their first time, the next step in the game's multiplayer evolution has me excited.
Uncharted's multiplayer wasn't as intense or fast-paced as some of the premium shooters out there, but it had the unique platforming elements to it that made it more interesting to play than the typical cookie-cutter FPS MP. Dragging people down off a cliff to their death was great. Kicking people who try that on you in the face . . .to their deaths, was classic. Next step should be worth looking forward to.
If Deception exceeds its latest predecessor, might as well call it the greatest game ever made. I doubt they can create a better game then Among Thieves; but I'm definitely not underestimating Naughty Dog.
Excited as hell, I'll be pre-ordering it as soon as the option becomes available.

I was in your shoes back in the summerr of 2009. I just finished a bunch of games and went to Amazon and ordered 3 games on sale. One of them was Uncharted 1.
I wasn't into the hype at first. I thought Uncharted was a cookie cutter tomb raider platformer. But I was neatly surprised by it's story and game mechanics. The 2nd one seemed to multiply the experience 10 fold especially with the kick-ass opening sequence.
I agree with the poster above, Uncharted may give you 8-12 hours in single player but it's one of the most rewarding 8 hours you'll ever play. They're in the same boat as GOW3 IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a Dragon Age / Demon's Soul fan than Uncharted or GOW (actually I never played GOW in the PS2 and only played it when they released GOW collection), but Uncharted is one of those games a PS3 owner just cannot miss.
looks like uncharted 3 is coming out nov 1, 2011. also coming out that month will be elder scrolls 5: skyrim (just announced today at video game awards)

Glad they're frickin' finally making TES 5. WAY overdue.

I hope it's better than Oblivion which I found to be unplayable until it was modded with a complete overhaul mod about a year later. I couldn't stand the original "out of the box" game.
