Default What does the OTC think about the trade?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5932861

New Magic lineup would be:

Arenas/Nelson/Duhon/JWill
JRich/Reddick
Hedo/QRich
Bass/Anderson
Howard/Malik Allen

Wizards new lineup:

Wall
Hinrich/Young
Lewis/Thorton
Blatche/Booker
McGee

the rest aren't important,

Suns new lineup:

Nash/Dragic
Carter/Dudley
Hill/Pietrus
Frye/Warrick
Gortat/Lopez

imo Suns get better because they get more depth with Pietrus/Gortat, Wiz also get better because they were having problems playing both Gil and Wall and now have a three point marksman in Lewis, and Orlando gets better with a new big 4, Arenas, Howard, Turk, and JRich.

many of the posters in the OTC have low basketball knowledge and are failures at evaluating talent, this isn't the place to ask if you want good answers

Hedo+Dwight=dream team, I think the Magic improve, dont understand why anyone would ever take Rashard Lewis contract though
huge improvement for the Magic-they get deeper and clutcher

Great trade for Magic and Suns, bad for Wizards now they have another chucker in Lewis alongside Blatche

Magic are no longer contenders, then again they never were.

Pretty fitting that Rashard Lewis goes to a shitty team. He doesn't really deserve a ring after tanking when he got that big contract.

sorry, but Hedo has lost his steam. It's good that they got Arenas and all but even though Rashard Lewis was over-paid they need him.

I'm about to go to the NBA Forum.

Hedo back in that offense is a good thing. I think the Magic needed to do something and getting rid of that waste of talent Lewis makes them a winner no matter what.

I'd say the Suns and Magic are big winners here.

But wtf is Washington doing?

Hedo and JRich could be deadly in Orlando but I am not, nor have I ever been a Gilbert Arenas fan. Dude is shooting about 40% this year, however he'll have Dwight to clean up on the boards, and he does have the ability to go off so it could work out in the end.

I think they need the fire that he and JRich bring over the laid back roll over when punched in the mouth ways of Lewis and Carter. Hedo's ability to run the offense will work for them too, not to mention Gilbert can do it as well. Definitely the winners are the Magic and Suns out of this. Not really sure what the Wizards are doing other than shipping off the baggage that Gilbert brought and officially making it Wall's team.

I'm aware that he was the key player in the 09 ECF but he lost his steam.

So here's what I said in the NBA forum, but this is actually a better place for it, because there's already a dozen threads on the topic in there so what few good takes there are out there are spread thin anyway.

Quote:
I certainly won't sit here and say they got worse. I was a proponent of their resigning Hedo when he left. But part of that was the value of Hedo and Shard playing together. I like JRich with them better than VC for sure. And I'd say Gil gives them depth. I wouldn't start him over Nelson, but he can spell at either guard spot, and gives the bench some much needed scoring punch.

But boy are they thin up front now. I'm sure they would've loved to figure out some way to do this without giving up Gortat, but I know they just wanted to shake things up. Losing Gortat up front may not seem like much, but they have absolutely no depth up front now. They may be better equipped to play Miami now, but they're worse off against a big team like Boston or LA. If Dwight gets in foul trouble, they simply don't have the personal to do what's required on the floor for long stretches of time.

Maybe they can build another package around shooters like Redick in an effort to get some frontcourt depth. It doesn't have to be anyone of real consequence. Something like how the Heat stumbled on Dampier would be crucial for this team.

From the other teams perspectives. This is pretty much a salary dump for Phx. Carter's expirer for four years of Hedo. It probably sets them up to finally move Nash. They did get some good depth players out of it. Gortat and Pietrus are guys who can play in any rotation in the league. They're not going to save a franchise, but they belong. Sarver should be forced to sell.

Washington. It's sort of a lateral move. They shave a year of debt off in the swap of Gils contract for Shards. And it's probably a more comfortable fit for Wall. Plus they get their hands off Gil for whatever other reasons they may wanted him gone. I think they probably coulda gotten more as the season wore on.

Certainly from a personal standpoint, this was a win for Orlando. But I don't think it's the cure all they've been looking for. And adding Gil and Hedo to the books basically means this is their team for a while. They don't have a ton of flexibility anymore in the payroll, so I hope they're happy with it. I've always though Hedo was a good fit with Dwight because Dwight covers some of Hedo's weaknesses. And Hedo's playmaking helps create for Dwight.
I would really be inclined to start JRich and play Arenas off the bench for punch.
