I'm not arguing that I'm just saying I thought the actors/acting in BNTH was better.

Kane's character seemed hollow and contrived to me.

I love both movies but I am going with BoyZ N The Hood.

I didn't realize that Boyz N The Hood was about Blood vs Crip when I was kid because John Singleton said in the interview. Cube was crip.

Pac was supposed to play O-Dog in Menace II Society but Pac was hitting one of Hughes brother in the face.

I mean he could say that after the fact but in reality the movie gave no insight on Bloods and Crips.

The Gheri Curl guy that Cube killed was wearing read alot, and he and Cube were rivals, but I never heard any key words that would have signified each gang.

No:

"Cuz"
"My nerve"
"C-day"
"Crip Walk"
etc...

I guess leaving it bland and non descriptive helped sell more tickets though.

I liked and watched both movies.

But if the point was "making the young black population acknowledge their situation and try to change it" they absolutely failed or lied.

Young wannabe gangstas actually try to imitate guys like "O-dog" these days.

I forgot about that. I thought Cuba rode a yellow slug bug.

Hey, I've been wrong before.

At any rate I still don't think it's accurate to say the film was about bloods and crips when they barely scratched the surface of the culture.

Of course, it was not only about gangs, but also some human drama and character development and "criticize to the system" was involved.

Boyz N The Hood.

That movie is actually an all time classic and can be enjoyed years far down the road.

In the movie they weren't throwing signs nor where they claiming to be blood or crips....John Singleton kinda made it subliminal and if u weren't familiar with the terms or colors like I was then u didn't catch because we're not from Cali.

The cats who shot Ricky were in Red;

I know it was about gang violence but, if yo uwere following why i said what i said, the director said it was about bloods and crips....I thik that statement is inaccurate because they didn't touch on why the gangs originated, showed little about their daily operations, and had few references (that I can remember).

I agree it was about gang violence but it was about a little more than that as well.

I know what a gang sign is (&how to spot it) and i know what you mean by underlying messages and whatnot I'm just saying i disagree with his rhetoric. I don't think you can halfway tackle a subject like that then say the movie was about those two specific gangs.

I would say it was about gun/gang violence/ignorance in the inner city/gentrification, etc...

Right, my whole point is that I didn't catch that movie have blood vs crip in it. Now the movie COLORS, yes that was about Bloods, Crips and the Police in the area. Boyz In The Hood was about.....BOYZ IN THE HOOD!!! One of the main characters was trying to get out of the hood and go to college.

Wait-a-minute I do remember the hating ass cop asking him if he was one of those Rolling 60's or something....so yeah, I do remember it being tied to gangs, but the two main characters (Cuba and Morris) were going to college and/or the military like you said.

I really think that the directors knew that (at that time) this movie would draw a lot of attention and that there would be a lot of fighting and acting bad at the theatres so they toned down the gang references a bit.

I forget if it was this movie or New Jack City where this guy (in Chicago) shot up the movie theatre. At any rate, after a movie like this the goons always act bad.
