Default Passengers Thwart Attempted Hijacking on Turkish Airlines Flight

Quote:
Passengers thwarted an attempted hijacking on a Turkish Airlines’ flight. The large, brave men actually overpowered the would-be hijacker in a unique way. The heroes set on the man who attempted to take over control of the flight.

The man named Yasar Cuma claimed to have a bomb, which later turned out to be fake. Using the fake bomb, he tried to gain control of the 737’s cockpit shortly before the flight was to land in Istanbul. The would-be hijacker tried to demand that the plane fly back to Oslo, Norway – it’s area of origination. Cuma had an ID that said he was suffering from a mental illness, so that may actually explain the attempted hijacking.

The heroic passengers who subdued Cuma were Firat Faysal Ali and Dag Gjerstad. The remaining passengers took refuge in the back of the plane while the two men subdued the man who is now accused of the attempted hijacking. Despite the disturbance on the flight, the plane actually landed ahead of schedule in Istanbul.

It must have been a good site to see the passengers sitting on the man when the police arrived. That is a sad situation, and the would-be hijacker's friends were not surprised that he tried to take control of the airplane. Thanks to the quick-acting passengers, nobody was hurt during this ordeal. Of course, most people were probably still terrified over the situation.

This is what I would assume would happen 99.9998% of the time that someone attempts to hijack a plane. Wonder why the idiot americans didn't do it.

People did thwart the underwear bomber so American's aren't exactly slouches. Part of the reason both these attempts were blocked was because it was a nut job going solo. In a lot of cases they have multiple guys with weapons and then it's not so easy to coordinate and take them down at once.

unless the "bad guys" outnumber the "good guys" by many, there should be no excuse. Especially when dealing with ****ing box cutters.

What if the bomb was not a fake? The whole plane would have blown up. "Two heroes" turn into "two people trying to be heroes"

These people wouldn't have even tried to stop a hijacking pre-9/11. Now everybody is scared the hijacker is just a nutjob looking to crash the plane.

The 9/11 terrorists totally ruined the hijacking game for all the real hijackers out there. You can't even hijack a plane and make demands anymore without having a bunch of passengers jump your ass. They may as well just stop making plane-hijacking movies, because nobody is going to believe that shit anymore. "This shit aint real, those passengers would have fukced those hijackers up by now".

fortunately none. I think i have flown close to 150 times since 01 and on a couple of occasions when i saw a suspicious guy giving off a nervous vibe, i made the decision in my head about my plan of attack.

Ah, I think you're forgetting the history of airplane hijackings. If you look back you didn't have many people trying to be heroes because on average most people would be held as hostages and eventually rescued or released. 9/11 changed a lot of peoples perspectives around the world. It use to be if a plane was going to be blown up the crazies would just do it, not use it as a weapon. Now I think people automatically assume it is life or death so you will continue to see more people take action.

I'm a big fan of vigilante justice. Well, I'm not sure if vigilante is the right word here, but I like when stupid people/criminals get what's coming to them via those who fight back. Like the guy in Boston taunting the driver with racial slurs who turned out to have a metal bat in his back seat.

Not according to Dooms.

You can't compare something like this to the 9/11 attacks. They had an organized group who all sat in 1st class. When they went into action they overpowered the cockpit, killed the pilots and took control of the plane before anyone really knew what was happening.

I had a little tyrade about it in this thread but I really believe that it will be nearly impossible to hijack an airplane ever again unless you somehow manage to get an automatic weapon on board. Post 9/11 people just aren't going to let themselves be at the mercy of some ass hole who can only do so much damage. I think it makes all the security measures at the airport a moronic waste of time and a show to ease the weak minds.

Now in this case, you have someone claiming to have a bomb, which makes for an interesting situation- do you choose to believe that he somehow managed to sneak a bomb past metal detectors and bag scanners and hope that his plans aren't to use the plane as a weapon or do you stomp his ass? Well played fellas.
