Euroleague Mediterranean Clubs Working On US TV Contracts
The new Mediterranean Basketball Association, which starts next year, is already working on securing TV contracts in the US for next season when the NBA lockout occurs.
Some of the teams that want to sign well-known NBA players in order to secure TV deals in the US during the NBA lockout are the Greek and Turkish Euroleague teams that will play in the Mediterranean League, Maccabi of Israel, and the Qatari selection. Qatar has already been signing well-known soccer players from Europe and now they want to start bringing in well-known NBA players as well.
ESPN would air the games of the teams on US TV if they sign well-known NBA players, so the clubs and the league are already making plans to do so, in order to generate high TV revenues from the US market and in order to break the NBA's dominance of the pro basketball club TV market in North America, as this is the chance for these clubs to get into this market.
The Mediterranean League teams that are working to secure these TV deals with ESPN in the US are: Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Efes, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Maccabi, and the Qatari selection.
