Default Did Stern do the right thing in blocking CP3 from the Lakers?

Just wondering.

He thought it was an unfair trade, but I'm not sure the Clipper trade was better. Did he act as an owner or as someone who wanted more NBA parity?
And does he have the right to manipulate parity?

How did that trade give more parity? The deal he declined would have made New Orleans better short-term than the one he accepted, but it would have made the team much less attractive to potential buyers and severely restricted the Hornets cap-space. Stern realized that owners want to make their own mark on the team and that would not have been possible had they acquired 3 vets (Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, and Kevin Martin), and a young PG (Dragic) whose contract was up last summer.

At the end of the day great job by Stern.

Well seeing as Stern is an advocate for ALL the owners and 29/30 of them hated this deal then yes he did. He works for the owners and they said no. He did his job. Fairness is out of the equation.

This like mob rule. 29 of 30 teams don't want the Lakers to become a title contender. Of course they will veto anything that helps the Lakers. Fairness should come into play.

That was the inherent problem with the league running the team. That was sterns mistake not the veto itself. When you have 29 owners of one team who also have stake in another there are always conflicts of interest

Stern did not rescind that trade because of the interests of the other owners. He rescinded it because it hurt the Hornets and would have lowered the likelihood that they would be sold >>>> http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...o-hornets.html.

Quote:
National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern said today he vetoed the trade of Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers because it was “more valuable” to keep the All-Star guard with the New Orleans Hornets.

Quote:
The league owns the Hornets and is trying to sell the club.

“The decision was taken that Chris Paul in New Orleans was more valuable than the trade that was being discussed,” the commissioner said.

THE NBA OWNED THE Hornets at the time. The NBA,STERN AND COMPANY WERE TECHNICALLY THE OWNERS.They were trying to suit and appease and bring in new buyers and they wouldnt have been able to do that with a loaded cap roster and aging veterans.Instead they raded fopr several draft picks, young prospects and some young stars with cap room for the new owner to START FRESH.

AND another why would the nba allow another Kwame for Gasol, draft pick,Nash for sessions type trade to go if theyre trying to build up the team and attract potential BUYERS.This isnt talking about a coach or gm and suit their players,THIS IS AN OWNER AND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND AN NBA TEAM AND CITY AT STAKE.

stern has made a lot of shit decisions over the years. the amare/diaw suspensions for example, but this one was very controversial. it was very unprecedented that would have left a lot of other people sour in either decisions. in the end i have to trust stern's judgement because he is truly the master in handling the nba. he will be missed in 2014

No it didn't. It gave them really good expiring or short deals with reasonable contracts that they easily could have flipped for more cap space/picks.

It was not only Stern but the other NBA owners that decided that the original deal proposed by the lakers was not as good as the Clippers deal. They were looking out for the Pelicans. Worked out better for New Orleans. Why are lakers fans angry over this? The Clippers deal was much better for the New Orleans franchise. It's over, get over it losers.

No team should ever be owned by the league. No trades should have been made until the team was bought. Obviously stockpiling draft picks and cap space made a sale more likely, so the Clippers ended up winning because they had the best package available. So, in order to sell the team, it was the right thing. But, right from the beginning, making trades and personnel moves on a league owned team seems to be unethical, and that includes the trade that got vetoed. Either way Stern is a piece of shit.
