Default N.Y. or bust for ‘Melo?

Quote:
Several sources told Yahoo! Sports that Carmelo Anthony’s agent, Leon Rose, has recently begun informing teams that the All-Star forward is interested in signing a contract extension with only the New York Knicks. The stance has weakened the Denver Nuggets’ leverage in trying to deal Anthony, not only to other teams, but also the Knicks.

The sources said the Knicks don’t feel pressed to present a substantial trade offer to the Nuggets because they think they can also sign Anthony after the season if he opts out of his contract, as expected.

“If you’re New York, you just sit and wait until the offseason,” one general manager said. “That’s where it’s likely to go. Why give up assets to get him now when you can wait and get him next season?”

Said another source: “If ’Melo is telling the world he wants to go [to New York], why fight so hard to get him? [Knicks president] Donnie Walsh knows this.”

Though there’s less than three weeks before the Feb. 24 trade deadline, a deal for Anthony isn’t imminent. Sources said the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks still have interest in Anthony despite knowing he doesn’t plan to re-sign with them.

“Don’t blame ’Melo. He’s been up front about wanting to go to New York since the summer,” one source close to the talks said. “They better trade him to New York or end up with nothing.”

New york should sit this out. There is no point in trading for someone who will most likely be on your squad in the next 6-7 months. It also makes Gallo expendable, you can get a lot back for trading him.

Gallinari has really improved his play since he came back from the injury.
If he continues to play like this his value will be much higher than it is now.

I hope we could get Melo this summer but I wouldn't mind giving Curry+Chandler+Randolph for Melo right now.

Nah let the thuggets bite them in the ass, no point trading when you know he's interested in coming over.

Denver seems to want picks more than anything. It makes it difficult when your team is in playoff contention as they don't amount to anything in the lottery.

I really see New york sitting this one out. Everyone knows Melo only wants to play in New York. Denver FO has been really stubborn about the whole situation, they should have taken that new jersey deal when they had the chance.

It's a 3 way stalemate between Nuggets, Knicks, and Melo. Who will blink first?

I don't think that Denver had a chance.
They probably knew that Melo would refuse to sign an extension with Nets.

Nets aren't stupid, they also wouldn't accept the deal without Anthony's signature.

We could see a rental deal go down from Rockets or Mavericks.

It's at the point now where if I was running the Nugs I might just accept Landry Fields, Chandler/Gallinari, and Curry's expirer. It's time to take the L. Make sure the fan base knows to hate Melo forever, have the jersey-burning ceremonies and just say "**** it." Whatever shot they had at fair returns was blown by whoever pissed off Prokhorov, so unless some cellar-dwellar is willing to mortgage the future for a temporary spike in revenue you're doomed.

If he really wants to play just for us then we have nothing to worry about.

It really doesn't matter will he play for Rockets or Nuggets until the end of the season when we know that he will join us at the summer.

If they trade for him they're foolish, wait it out and grab him at the end.

Not so sure why anyone would want to rent Melo... Mavs in particular. Would that put them over the top and be contenders? I just don't see it.
