Default Nuggets in discussion to gift Melo to Lakers for Nothing

http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angele...ory?id=6101304

Quote:
The Denver Nuggets have had preliminary discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers on a Carmelo Anthony trade, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Tuesday.

The Lakers' package would be built around center Andrew Bynum. Denver has no interest in Ron Artest and isn't particularly interested in Lamar Odom either, sources said. A straight-up deal of Bynum for Anthony works financially, but there could be other players involved since Denver would look to shed more salary if possible.

Sources described the talks as in their infancy, and a three-way deal between the Knicks, Nuggets and Wolves is very much alive.

Bynum is averaging 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in 27 games this season as he works his way back from injury. In five full seasons with Los Angeles, Bynum has averaged only 56 games per season due to injuries.

Anthony is coming off a 50-point, 11-rebound outing Monday, but the Nuggets lost to the Rockets.

The Laker fans always said Bynum would amount to something special. If he gets them Melo then I guess they were right.

And Donald Sterling needs to get on this. If Melo is interested in coming to LA then theres no reason that he shouldn't be heading to the Clips. I think Kaman, Aminu, Rasual Butler's expirer, and the T-Wolves pick that the Clips own (top 10 protected through 2011 and unprotected after) for Melo and Harrington could work ----> http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=190820

In the last 5 years or so he's been trying to land a star (first Kobe, then Baron and Brand, and last year he went after Bron), and Melo definitely fits the bill. The Clips have enough pieces to offer a very attractive package (something like Kaman, Aminu and the pick the Clips own from the T-Wolves [top 10 protected through 2011 and unprotected after]), while still having a talented young core of Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Baron Davis, Eric Bledsoe and Deandre Jordan to put around Melo.

The Clips really need to get on the ball.

I think Broussard just likes playing with the trade machine.

bynum is not nothing. if the nuggets can get bynum back for anthony and shed al harrington's deal to another team and get a draft pick....its a no brainer in my opinion.

i think its great for both teams personally.

This happens, smh. I'm tired of the Lakers.

I doubt Melo wwould want to share the ball with Kobe AND Pau. Where in NY he would have a perfect sidekick in Amare. I also doubt that the Nuggets would want to improve the Lakers.

Is Kobe ok with conceding the team to another star already?

This is why bynum and players to the nuggs for melo and harrington is not once sided. they get a big back and shed a crappy contract.

i dont get the ish though. Is Wilson chandler a better offer than bynum? I think not.

Well the thing with Bynum is that he has the potential to be much more valuable to a franchise than guys like Chandler and Brewer. Only 23 and has a very good skillset for a young center. But obviously his injuries are a big red flag. The Nuggets could rent him for next season and see how he holds up, and if he gets injured again or plays below standards, they have a team option for 2012/2013. Theoretically he's the best young talent they can acquire but the injuries screw everything up. Highly doubt they take the risk in the end.

Is Harrington's contract really that bad? He's a decent 6th man and he's being paid MLE money - which supposedly equates to the average salary of all NBAers, for 2 years more years. Thats only about $13 mil committed to him after this season (the last 2 years aren't guaranteed, and its likely he will be bought it).

If you're an owner/exec of a contending team, I truly don't see how that contract is so bad.
