Default What if Shaq rhad remained on the Lakers?

What if Shaq had remained on the Lakers with Kobe, would they had been a better team or worse?

I am almost 100% sure they would of never gotten Gasol if they had kept Shaq. They would of never even had Bynum either.

They could have won the 2005, 2006, and probably 2007 as well if Shaq was motivated.

Kobe would still find a way to ask to be traded.

They would have obviously had a very good chance at a few more titles in the first few years. It would've been interesting to see Shaq transition to the second option role around '06 like he did with Wade or like Kareem did with Magic in '87. A lot of it would've depended on how well they filled in the other positions as Shaq declined, they would've needed stronger players at either PG, SF or PF than what they had when they 3peated, but it's certainly plausible that they could've continued winning. Hell, '09 Kobe and Shaq looks like a pretty good duo.

I think Shaq would have accepted the role as the 2nd option. But you are right with the fill in the other position cuz Malone left, GP left. Who else did they have?

Kwame Brown and a shitload of cap space. They could of had Kevin Garnett if they played their cards right actually.

Kobe+KG+Shaq..

I agree 100%. If the Lakers had concentrated on some younger role players, instead of two has-beens in Malone and Payton in 2004, like the Spurs have done the last decade, they probably could have won several titles with Shaq-Kobe.

BTW, at least IMO, Shaq had already relinquished some of his dominant role to Kobe in the early 00's, although he was still their most important player. But, ...and I know that I may get ripped for this...I blame much of their split on Phil Jackson. It seemed like Jerry West could get those two to get along well enough to win titles together. But, Jackson almost always took sides. First with Shaq, then later with Kobe....instead of getting them together to work out their issues.

The bottom line...IMHO...is that they could have won a title in nearly every season since 2004. I am not saying that they would have won all of them, but I think they would have been strong contenders in every one of them.

Better and more interesting question in my humble opinion:

What if Nazis won the war?

Think about it.
