The other main difference is that all those guys were star players. They instantly entered each contest with a buzz. Derozan is an ok starter on one of the worst teams in the league. I can't think of much that he could do.
The thing about that statement though is look at guys like Desmond Mason and Fred Jones. Fred Jones wasn't even an OK starter and he still generated more buzz. Yes, the props and the pre and post dunk activities do kind of take away from the dunking, but I feel the same thing this year happened to Demar again. Last year his dunks were good but he just doesn't have as good of a stage presence as some of the other guys. Although this year was better.
DeRozan was robbed. First dunk was better than Blake's first and second and his second dunk was, IMO, dunk of the night. It was awesome, smooth and most importantly a success on the first try. I am now totally sold that they should go back to only giving you one shot at a dunk. If you let the cat out of the bag and miss a dunk the hype is done anyway so we might aswell go back to the original format.
As for his lack of stage presence, I'm with Q on this one. He's a solid player on a terrible team who wasn't already crowned the champ ahead of time. Not really much he could have done. If he wants to build hype for himself going forward, he needs to start dunking on fools in-game like Griffin does.
Agreed...him getting 50 for glorified 360 was ridiculous.
I'm more pissed that his second dunk got more points then DeRozan's first one did. Not only was DeRozans dunk harder to complete, and he did it smoother.. but he didn't ditch his dunk and throw a lame attempt down in order to still get points.

I agree. And it seemed like he was the only one who got penalized by having more than one attempt. Maybe he should've had his mom come out and kiss Dr. J.
There was no way the NBA's new golden boy was going to lose this. This was all to market Griffin.
I agree. DeRozan should have won the slam dunk competition in my opinion. Griffin was mediocre. I honestly expected more from him. But DeRozans dunks were sick. I rooted for him to win it all after seeing what he brought to the court last night. But I guess Griffin had it in the bad all along

Yeah McGee's mom was going overboard with the hand waving and kissing all the judges.. and tonguing Dr.J
