Maybe sign chandler this offseason and deron next offseason.. Or we sign Melo in the offseason like any other team would have done but instead we are ran by idiots, the Isiah era isn't over. We could have traded Gallo or made him the 6th man, he would be a great 6th man.. Or we get Paul and trade Gallo, mozguv, Shumpert, etc..
But instead we are stuck with the two worst superstar combo you can have.
Im so tired of this shit.
Let me put you up on something right now and I'm quoting this moving forward.
Welcome to Bizzaro World!
If we never
made the Melo trade & stood pact heading into the 2011 offseason:
Amare - $18,217,705
Raymond Felton - $7,500,000
Ronny Turiaf - $4,360,000
Danilo Gallinari - $4,190,182
Wilson Chandler - $3,100,000
Anthony Randolph - $2,911,231
Timofey Mozgov - $2,566,800
Renaldo Balkman - $1,675,000
Toney Douglas - $1,145,640
Bill Walker - $916,100
Landry Fields - $788,872
We'd be sitting there with $11 Million in Cap Room in 2011.
Carmelo wasn't coming here as a Free Agent in 2011 for that. No matter where he was traded he had a Player Option
that would've paid him $18.5 Million. He opted in and that is the salary he is playing for this season
, with his $60 Million extension going into effect starting next season. He wanted an extension because he was unsure of the salaries for Max contracts in the new CBA.
we hadn't made the Melo deal, he would be playing for the New Jersey Nets on his Player Option waiting to see who he could attract to Brooklyn or whether he needed to leave. Basically, the same situation as Deron is in right now.
That means another season of Amare as the #1 option with us filling the team with guys on 1 year deals to preserve cap space for the Summer of 2012 when hypothetically Melo, Dwight, CP3, & Deron can become Free Agents.
However, why would any of those 3 teams except the Nets(Melo) allow their Franchise player to become a Free Agent and they get nothing in return?
Lets just say Chris Paul still gets traded to the Clippers for Eric Gordon, Al Farouq Aminu, Chris Kaman's expirer and Minnesota's unprotected 1st Round Pick.
Now its Melo, Dwight, & Deron.
Lets just say Dwight Howard(& Hedo) gets traded by the Magic to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum & filler like what most people expect to go down at some point.
Now its Melo & Deron.
Brooklyn isn't conceding Melo to us via trade, but we have a trade package that Utah will be fine taking back in Felton, Gallo, Fields, & Randolph.
Knicks have acquired Deron mid-season.
Now our salaries for Summer of 2012:
Amare - $19,948,799
Deron Williams - $17,779,457
Timofey Mozgov - $2,794,621
Toney Douglas - $2,067,880
Iman Shumpert - $1,680,360
Renaldo Balkman - $1,675,000
Uh Oh! We're only $12 Million under the Cap.
Lets amnesty Renaldo Balkman.
$14 Million under the Cap
Lets trade Toney Douglas for a future 2nd round pick.
$16 Million under the Cap
Deron opts out for a longterm contract since he now knows the CBA rules unlike Melo a season before.
$34 Million under the Cap.
We're banking our entire future on Deron & Melo agreeing to join the Knicks with Melo having the chance to stay in Brooklyn and Deron having the chance to return to Dallas.
Do you want to be in that situation again?
I dont now, I didnt then, and I'm done. Goodnight.
