$5 million for a decent NBA center is hardly the shitty deal people make it out to be. Granted he's a little soft and doesn't rebound well for his size, but Love's rebounding makes up for it, and he can score around the hoop and can protect the rim with his shot blocking (over 2 per game)
Yeah its not a steal of a deal, but there are plenty of 7-footers making way more and producing way less.
People just like to talk shit because of where he was drafted. Thats in the past, so quit looking at him like he's some kind of redheaded stepchild.

Otherwise how do the Wolves improve and get out of living in the top of the lottery all the time? Keep drafting and hope they find a Lebron? KG? Good luck.
Minnesota has made some dumb decisions, questionable moves. This isnt one of them.
This right here. What kind of free agents are the Wolves going to attract to Minneapolis with $10-12 million per year?? Definitely not someone with the youth, talent, and dedication, like Kevin Love.

Beasley is the Wolves best player and he should be getting paid like it as well.
Gay got a 82million contract
Deng got a 80million contract
Iggy got a 80million contract
So can't Beasley get a 80+million dollar contract?
If we assumes that the economic climate of the league is the same as it was in 2006 (which it certainly is not), and we assume that every GM thought that Gay deserved $82 million (which they didn't), and we assume that the renegotiated collective bargaining agreement will be the same as it is now (which it likely will not be), and we assume that the salary cap continues to grow as it has in the past (as a function of revenue, it likely wont)..... then yeah Beasley will get $80+ million.
Re: Timberwolves expected to offer Kevin Love $70 million contract extension
I really don't see how this is overpaid considering the lack of quality big men in this league. That contract is around the mark that other big men like Bogut and Al Jefferson are making.
True the team isn't winning, but putting up 20/15 is putting up 20/15 regardless if it's on a bad team or good team. Remember when Gasol used to average 20/10 on a bad team, then went to the Lakers and now he's averaging 20/10 on a good team? His stock went up despite same numbers, not because he got better, but because he played with better team-mates and had a better coach.
I see Love putting up double double numbers where-ever he goes, this a very fair contract.

Elite rebounder, very good outside shooter, willing passer and teammate. He's averaging 20 points per game without having many/any plays called for him.
Is he a franchise player?? No, not at this point in his career.
Is he a player that EVERY GM in the NBA would be willing to shell out a slightly-above- market-value to keep him in a small market that lacks any ability to attract marquee free agents?? Abso-f*cking-lutely.
Re: Timberwolves expected to offer Kevin Love $70 million contract extension
Well I guess T'Wolves fans don't have to worry about losing Love to free agency. Jesus Christ. What a waste of money. Love's a good player, but 70 million... really?

$11 million per year is reasonable given the Wolves' ability to attract marquee free agents to Minneapolis.
What do you think other teams would offer him in free agency?? Paul Milsap signed a contract for $8-9 million per year, and he's not nearly the outside shooter as Love.
What else should the Wolves do?? Keep hoping they strike gold in the lottery, or pay their players what they deserve and try to build a team around what they have??

League-leading rebounder, a double-double machine, and shoots 43% from behind the arch..... thats good for 12th in the league, and 2nd among big men.
No he's not a franchise player, but he's absolutely someone that the Wolves had to keep, for the sake of the team and the fanbase.
