What do you think other teams would offer him in free agency?? Paul Milsap signed a contract for $8-9 million per year, and he's not nearly the outside shooter as Love.

What else should the Wolves do?? Keep hoping they strike gold in the lottery, or pay their players what they deserve and try to build a team around what they have??

Sign him AFTER the CBA.

Technically the deadline to sign contract extensions was March 1st, so the earliest they can make it official is in June or July.... which is when the CBA will be renegotiated.

Since it has not been made official, nor has the offer been inked, I can only assume that the new CBA will play a part in the specifics of Love's new contract extension.

Perhaps this is just more of a symbolic gesture of the Wolves' FO that they support Love as a key component on the team, and are dedicated to keeping him in Minneapolis for the long haul.

when did ISH get infiltrated with retards..... big men get 8-10 million for just being big Love is putting up 20/15, what do you expect him to get paid? I'm actually surprised he didn't ask for max... Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay, Boozer, he's in that level and they all got maxed out.

Kevin Love is the best player since KG. They cannot keep on drafting players in the hopes they turn out to be superstars. No one is coming to Minny through free agency. They have to sign players that are there and are willing to be there. Love has his limitations, but he is a solid player, and I have no problem with Minny giving him this type of money. What are they supposed to do? Let him walk and keep hoping and praying that the perfect player comes along?

He is putting up big stats on a crap team, but fact is, they are a really crappy team. People shouldnt disregard what he has done this year just bc he plays for a garbage team. He has been among the most consistent players.

Yeah because Love production will tail off considerably and you can get him for cheap. Right? Is that the thinking? What exactly do you think you are paying a big man who avg 21 & 15 while ranking in the top 15 in 3pt %?

Let me guess. 5yrs $45mil? 5yrs $30mil? He's 22yrs old. And you think you're gonna lowball him? Get real. And if you're Minnesota why are you even trying to be Sterling II? This franchise needs to get some established talent and build upon it not by adding more young, inexperience players. But proven talent. Time to win in Minnesota not try to be a got damn cheapskate.

You avg out $70mil over 6yrs and tell me its too much. You're lying.

Your Lakers go over the luxary tax without worrying about a dime. Why? Its all about winning. Sacrificed the bucks to put out a winner on the court. It costs to win. So why is it with the Wolves they need to be cheap and conservative over a young big who made the All Star (courtesy of coaches who see his value)?

People making a big deal out of $70mil over 6yrs. And of course it wont be avg out over 6yrs. It'll escalate and you'll say year 5, 6 he aint worth it. but year 1 and 2 he was underpaid. It evens out.

They should also try to give Beasley (I'm unsure if he sticks around there) money too. Lets face it as I said you're not getting Dwight Howard, Chris Paul or some elite, close to elite talent saying they want to take their talents to Minnesota. So how else you gonna improve the Wolves according to you? Love to hear it.

Let me put to you this way.

a $70 million deal killed the Bulls chances of signing guys, and we're gonna lose guys we drafted in the next couple years probably BECAUSE of that deal.Potentially Asik, Taj(doubtful)

Minny has to resign: Beasley, Wesley, Flynn, Rubio, and possibly Ellington/Randolph+whoever they draft this year.

Obviously if these guys pan out to be what's now their expectations they're gonna have to send out some serious deals. And even if you build a team in a small market they'll come. Look at the Spurs, they occasionally get the role players they need in Dyess, RJ re-upped, and occasionally other players throughout their runs signed there. Same with the Pistons(although bigger markets) they grabbed role players: Hunter, Dyess, C-webb, etc etc.

BUT if Love and other guys don't pan out. Congrats you're dealing out 12 million a year to a guy who doesn't help your team win at all. And you're still drafting guys who you have to pay one day.

Too much? Too little? Other issues?

It's fine. The reason why... for Minne... KLov is a lot. And by paying him more than anyone else would it makes him not only feel wanted but it makes him basically not trade-able. Who else are they gonna get? At least he's doing something people care about even if they aren't winning.

BTW: Not every team should be focused on winning it all... because winning it all is not a viable option for everyone. I can't imagine the Wolves winning it all... would take some crazy shit to transpire. In the meantime, let's pay Love 12 million a year to have some insane double double streak.

Why are you guys gonna lose out on Gibson and Asik?? You're gonna be over the cap, but not by much, and you'll have Bird Rights to both of those players. As long as they're not expecting $50 million deals, there's no reason they can't be resigned.

As for all those players you mentioned for the Wolves to sign; they're not going to demand the money that Love is being offered... they're simply not the same caliber player.

Its been said many many times in this thread: The Wolves can either keep trying to strike gold in the lottery, or they can sign their good players and try to build a team around them. Minneapolis IS NOT attractive for marquee free agents, so simply having cap space won't allow them to instantly become relevant ala New York.

They were a third-string PG away from beating the Lakers in the Western Conference finals with Cassell/Spree/Garnett.

Their starter, Cassell was hurt and didn't play. Their backup Troy Hudson was hurt and didn't play. They were relying on Anthony Carter and Fred F*cking Hoiberg to be their primary ballhandlers.

People are up-in-arms about this deal, but I guarantee you if the Wolves made Love available with a $10-12 million dollar salary, at least half the teams in the league would be making inquiries.

Elite rebounder + #12 in league in 3P% + willing and able passer + 22 years old

You have to also start some kind of foundation when building a team. Wolves have been treading water since they traded KG, and have yet to find any type of continuity. You are not building a team without setting those building blocks in place. Maybe it pans out, maybe it doesnt. But you you need to start somewhere.

Rose's extension he'll get bumped from 6-12million. we're right under 3 million under the cap right now, plus we have two first round picks that probably will add about 2 million Which is a total of at least +5 million AND Noah's extension which adds another 6-7million to the cap. So....Odds aren't good right now because Reinsdorf has NEVER paid the tax.(although I do expect the picks to be traded)

They're not Like I expect Beasley to get maybe 9million and Rubio's gonna make I think 4.5 million for awhile on his deal. And then you have Wesley and Flynn. But the last years of Rubio's deal you also have to extend Wesley Johnson which could get hairy if Rubio's legit because of Love/Beasley's already extended deals. Plus you have to fill out a roster full of role players.

And i get they're not going to get someone great in free agency, BUT role players will come if it's good enough. Along with the fact that if he doesn't get better, or even worse, his numbers are as padded as we think that contract becomes sooooo poisonous. Thats why they should be glad the new CBA will save them from this contract.

Exactly. What else would they do with cap space?? Marquee free agents are not gonna seriously look to sign with Minny.

Sign a few guys for $4 or $5 million??

Use their space to get other teams' unwanted players in big trades??

Rent out their space for teams looking to get under the luxury tax??

Yeah those could all get them good players, but none of the caliber of Kevin Love.

LOL, role players come if its good enough.... but how do you get good enough without keeping your good players??

Free agency won't bring them in, and the Wolves can't keep hoping the draft lands them a superstar.

If he doesn't get better, he's STILL an elite rebounder, a 43% three point shooter, a good passer, and a player that has loved basketball his entire life and is dedicated to being the best player he can be.

Sounds like its worth $10-12 million.

If the Wolves don't give it to him, someone else will, and the Wolves will be back to ground zero with little to build the team around, and an impatient fanbase.

Not every team can strike gold in the lottery (#9 to #1) and grab a franchise-altering, Top-10 player.
