No one ever refuted that Dirk had some very good teams. But championship material? Yeah, twice, but that's about it. So it's not about excuses but putting things into perspective.

Great pick-up, by the way! With Stephenson and Brewer, we now have two nasty defenders, a taller and a shorter version.

great pickup. i have a feeling dallas picked him up so other contenders won't pick him up. i don't think dallas will use him, but who knows. maybe they will.

i was hoping the spurs would get him to inject some defensive presence that is lacking right now.

I don't know where you guys are getting this information that Brewer can hit the 3 ball, he is a terrible shooter. He also doesn't play good man d as he gambles for steals far too often.

Definitely a good pickup for an already good defensive team.

People keep overlooking the Mavs coming out of the West, and I really think they're poised to make some noise come May and June.

Pistons had no#1 option
The championship Spurs where constructed similar to these mavericks team with great and good role players around their star Timmy.

When Miami beat The mavs's they had Wade and a team of over the hill players so there was no Real second option..so no more excused for Dirk

dirk has played with a bunch of regular season stars his entire career that fall off dramatically in the playoffs.

he's played on two legit contenders. 06 and 07. and even then, dirk never had a good defensive big next to him, a legit 2nd option, or a great coach.

you need the above three to win almost always.

there is a difference between championship talent and talented teams. dirk and lebron are perfect examples of players that had very good teams, just not championship level teams.

go back through history and look up how many superstar players won a title without an all-nba teammate. its happened for three players in the last 31 years. jordan/duncan/hakeem. thats it. those are the only three guys to do it.

dirk hasn't had an all nba teammate since 03, and that was an often injured nash that wasn't even half the player he became when he got healthy and the nba changed the rules.

whatever though. the dirk hate is just absurd. he's been a fantastic playoff performer.

26/11/3 for his career in the playoffs and one of the best elimination game players of all time.

if you people think for a second that dirk's teams are even remotely comparable to the teams winning titles over the last 31 years then you need a new sport to follow.

If Dirk was as good as Mavericks fans think he is he'd have a ring by now with the supporting casts he's had

He's like Josh Smith. A guy that shouldn't be jacking up 2-3 3 pointers a game, but does it anyway. He's career 31% from 3 and only 40% from the field.

nah.

he'd have a ring if he was in the top 10 all time. he's simply not the player of a duncan or hakeem. and that is what it takes to win with the talent and coaching dirk has had.

no mavs fans or dirk fans puts dirk in that class. we accurately rank him in the top 25 or so all time and he'll probably finish in the top 20 if he plays another 5 years or so. just depends on how dirk wants to finish out.

winning a title does not prevent dirk from being a great player, it has prevented dirk from being mentioned with the all-time greats in the top 10 or top 15.

thats it.

the mavs winning 50 or more for 11 straight years might give you an indication of how good he actually is.

or his career playoff numbers and elimination games and game 7's....stuff like that.

dirk came up short in 06 and struggled in 07 in the first round. but the difference is that those were his only chances to win really. other greats have had far more chances.

if we want to boil down an entire career to a few games or moments, i can find worse failures than dirk for every single player not named bill russell. that includes kobe/jordan/shaq/hakeem/kareem/magic/bird

all of those guys.

are we really gonna act like Jason Terry isnt basically Mo Williams?

thats the biggest offensive threat Dirk has had next to him the last 5 or so years.
