Default Is Dirk one of the tougher or softer NBA PFs?

Simple question.

Not to bash Dirk really, who I think is one of the top 3 PFs of his time (don't really like arguing eras), a clutch shooter, good passer, and underrated rebounder....I just think he's on the soft side.

So I vote soft(er).

Might have an argument for Pau but I'm not totally opposed to this statement.

My god these forums are getting stupider by the minute.

The guy is the best PF in the game and an MVP while you dumb idiots try to choose which characteristics of a dick fits him best.

iunno, it's tough to rate. there really are a lot of soft power forwards in the league. guys like amare are generally not considered soft because of their powerful finishing ability, but their defensive ineptitude and poor rebounding suggests otherwise. now dirk is not rebounding the ball particularly well this year, but that is primarily because he has a great rebounding centre for the first time in his career.

let's take a look at other leading PFs:

bosh - soft as shit.

gasol - decent, but still tends to whither in crucial situations.

love - yeah he pulls down rebounds, but he's poor defensively and shoots jumpers as much as dirk.

griffin - again, no defense.

boozer - same deal as griffin, although admittedly he has been performing better of late.

randolph - see above.

garnett - strong defense, never posts up and shoots jumpers just like dirk.

etc etc.

it really depends on how you define toughness/softness. to me, he's somewhere in the middle of the pack. to say he's unequivocally soft is ridiculous: he (almost) always turns up in the clutch and is actually playing pretty decent d.

Yeah cuz good/great players don't have weaknesses in their games.

We are talking pure toughness, not ranking the toughness of the best PFs.

Carl Landry, Chuck Hayes, Paul Milsap...scrappy, tough PFs.

This topic stems from a convo I had with "creepingdeath", I wanted other poster's input.

dirk is more than tough enough for his style of play...
silly thread, not every pf is going to be a charles barkely or karl malone style of banger... all that matters is does the player get the job done...

He's softer, but honestly he gets more crap than most about it because he's a Euro player so we just assume theyre going to be soft anyways so we look for it.

obviously guys like milsap are tougher than dirk, but by the same token he's tougher than dudes like bosh and love.

like i said, he's middle of the pack IMO.
