i thought this was an interesting comparison below (by jack armstrong)
AMIR JOHNSON-ANTONIO DAVIS COMPARISON: AD was the best big man the Raptors had, other than Chris Bosh, in their 16 year history. Look at his numbers in his 6th season at age 30: 9.4 ppg - 7 reb pg - 471 FG% - 703 FT % - 2.4 off reb pg - 0.9 blocks pg). Now look at Amir's numbers in his 6th yYear as an NBA player at age 23 (yes, only 23!) prior to the weekend. They are: 10.3 ppg - 6.8 rpg - 2.8 of reb - 582 FG% - 788 FT % - 1.3 blocks. Needless to say, with a 7-year differential in age, you would hope he's got lots of room for improvement. He needs to become a MUCH better defensive player and stay out of foul trouble in the process but I thought it would give you some good perspective on where he is vs. the second best big man to ever play for the Raps.
amir has some time to develop his game but i think overall he has played very well for the raps...still has foul trouble..but has picked up his defensive game and chips in offensive side...
Amir also generally plays a much smarter game on offense than AD ever did. AD was kind of a brutal offensive player when he was with the Raptors, relative to his position that is. It was generally overlooked though because he pretty much gave you the defense and rebounding that you expect from the position.
Amir is a good player but maybe better suited for a first big off the bench role while still getting a solid 25-28 minutes per game. Ed Davis has more potential as a starter in this league.
