KB2clutch is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Re: The real NBA double double record

wilts records shouldnt be taken into consideration when taking about records because he played against pathetic competetion, no hate. He's amazing for his era, but when you're averaging 50ppg, theres something wrong with everyone else, if he played with comparable competition he wouldnt be able to compete with love in rebounding, he was lucky to be the best player in probably the weakest era of all time

This. I know there are going to be some Love supporters coming in here disagreeing... but I am getting sick of hearing about these stats that are leading to nothing.

With that said, I do respect Love as a rebounder, but we don't need to keep hearing about his empty double-doubles that is leading to a 16-50 record for the T'wolves.

And as I said, I respect the way he rebounds the ball. He boxes out perfectly and really works hard under the glass.

Yeah, I posted this 11 days ago:

As par for the course, it was explicitly stated on SportsCenter a couple days ago that Moses Malone had the NBA consecutive double-double record.

Why? The record is the record. So, like the media has done, we can just rewrite reality in order to suit however we want it to be? The hell with the facts?

No.. they have been calling it a 'modern nba record'. It's not rewriting reality, it's just that you can see how special this player is by recognizing the record.

No, Wilt was just that much better than everyone else.

There was a Wilt tier, than 1st tier, than 2nd tier and so forth.

After Wilt, the 1st tier was a notch below leveled of with the likes of West, Baylor, Big O, Pettit, Schayes, Russell and a few others.

2nd tier you had the Hal Greer's, Sam Jones', Walt Bellamy's Dave DeBusschere's, Jack Twyman's of the bunch.

Basically this. It's funny how some try to rationalize Wilt's dominance because they can't bear facts. Some will mention the available rebounds (the only argument that has some basis), some will throw the usual "garbage competition" garbage, some will say that Wilt was 7'1 and athletic (I guess nobody gets enthusiastic when a charismatic athlete gets huge figures - maybe that's why people are so much in love with performances of a guy like Stockton or Nash and ignore guys like LeBron or Jordan ).

How about the fact that Love plays in an era when people go mad for stats and records and he has knowledge of who he's going against historically? Even guys like Wilt who were conscious about their stats basically played against themselves. Oscar wasn't going into games thinking "hmmm, I have 4 triple doubles in a row, let me try to extend my streak" (after all, triple-doubles were coined in the early 80's).

How about the fact that Wilt's record of 227 consecutive double doubles is ONLY this big because of reasons unrelated to having an off game? He started with 56 in a row, then got his jaw crushed by Lovellette. Then, he gets 220 in a row, but gets ejected in a game with a triple technical (!), then gets gets 133 in a row, but breaks his nose, then he gets another 227 (the record), before getting his first "legit" single figure scoring game. The guy could have 639 consecutive double-doubles with a tiny bit of better luck (he "only" had 636 in 639 games ), yet people try to hate on his 227 streak?

in b4 jlauber busts a nut in this thread

OT: Wilts stats shouldnt count. He played when 3s didnt exist, players chain smoked during timeouts and halftime, and the average centers were 6-4 white guys who worked as janitors during the day. Anyone over 6-6 with any basketball skill at all could post the same stats Wilt did
