WTF? How hung-over do you think your teach was to kill at least 3 days of class-time to show Mean Girls? The least a math teacher could do is show the movie "Pi" because its math related and its an original movie that, although not enjoyable, opens up discussion.

Gattaca it is, and this at least is relevant to Biology, though it doesn't go into depth too much really. Ethan Hawke is a great actor though

It's a funny flick. Definitely not hilarious and definitely not a top 50 comedy of all time or anything of that nature. Honestly, if the girls weren't attractive it would have been a whole hell of a lot harder to watch. But yes, it has laughs. And smarter humor than expected out of a movie revolving around teens.

Oh, and holy ****... Rachel McAdams is 30 years old. She was 28 when the movie came out. She looks like she's 18 at best in that movie, hahaha.

I had one class in Jr. High where we watched a bunch of movies. It was called Health. However, it had 0 to do with health. They taught us 0 about kidney function, cholesteral, heart disease, etc...except ot scare you from smoking, drugs, saturated fats etc.

It was really sex and don't use cig, alch, or drugs education.

It consisted mostly of the teacher introducing a topic then showing a movie of the week on that same topic.

Know what, I took this class over 20 years ago - even then i knew that we were not breaking new ground. I'll tel lyou something else, telling us drugs are bad and sex is bad, except do it safely, did 0 to discourageit in my school. In fact, seeing an after school movie where the kids have sex, then they feel bad about it, only made me feel lame about not having sex and more eager to try it out.

That class served no purpose. If schools were interested in preparing us to face the world, Health should have been replaced with "Insurance and Investments". It should be required and taught 8-11 grade. Every single person deals with insurance throughout their every day lives - yet schools teach nothing about it. Unlike the drugs and sex lessons, it is not instinctive and it is not taught in the home.

No instead show us "mean girl"s and show us how when kids get high they get addicted. Thanks, using that one all the time now.

I don't know about you guys, but seeing the videos against drinking too much planted a seed in me. When I began to drink and felt what it was like to have too many beers and pay big consequences later, I became more susceptive to the ads and stuff.

I really hate getting too drunk, to the point where I don't drink unless I have a really good chance of not being able to drink a lot.

Man, my tax dollars paid for that TV, VCR, and movie rental...so Gee Wizz can discover that a movie shown on class time is 10X funnier than one you have to pay to see.
1. your tax dollars didn't pay for any of it because you live in a different state, we use the TV for powerpoints, and the teacher bought the movie.

2. it was shown in one class period near the end of the school year when all the curriculum had been taught.

3. keep your bitter old man attitude on Knicks topics where its actually appropriate.

that is so true. health class was a joke. didn't learn one thing in there. if you go raw you could get STDs or kids. WOW, really? gee, thanks. now when does the health education start? oh, nope, the quarters over, time to go back to playing Golf and Archery in physical education.

"if you have sex, you will get chlymidia, and you will die. alright, pass out the rubbers."

although, I will qualify my point with a counterpoint: if all 6 billion people in the world were to receive the shallow health education I did, pretty much all population and STD problems in this world would be solved. "don't have sex, never ever, and wear rubbers if you do" would help a LOT of developing nations... they get nothing and have half their population below childbearing age. oops.
