I'll be making two very large BD purchases this month. There are quite a few Criterion releases I'm going to get. Barnes & Noble is having a 50% off sale on Criterion up until the 21st. I can't wait for Black Friday because if there aren't any Criterion sales on Amazon then I'll end up paying over $300 instead of about $205 which what they are with the sale.
So for my first order, all of them from the Criterion collection:
Days Of Heaven
Fear and Loathing
the Last Emperor
I might get something else instead of Playtime though, not sure I'll have to think about it. I have about 70 other BD's on my wishlist for Black Friday and Christmas.
Coen Brothers box-set: Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Fargo $46.99 [pre-order]. I've only seen Fargo out of these four, so I am super f*cking excited for this one.
Have you watched these yet? All three of the ones you haven't seen are great movie experiences.
Blood Simple is a great little crime movie. Fantastic Neo-noir.
Raising Arizona is pure lunacy.
Miller's Crossing is one of my favorites. Stylized 30's gangster movie based on the same Dashiell Hammet book that Kurosawa's Yojimbo is based on.
I think I will have to add that collection to my christmas list. I just looked to see which of them I had on DVD...I knew I had Fargo...thought I had Miller's Crossing, but I can't find it and I found Raising Arizona and more important found an unopened copy of Wings of Desire that I got for my birthday and thought I lost.
I finally ended up getting a blu-ray player a couple of weeks ago. I love it so far. best thing about it is the USB hookup. I have 2 terabyte hard-drive where I have a 720 and 1080 mkv files watching it through the player.
Seriously thinking of getting a ps3 in lieu of an xbox now.
The PS3 is actually a very, very good blu-ray player....you can stream Netflix through it as well.
If you want to watch movies, on it, it helps to get the playstation blu ray remote, which makes everything easier than the playstation controller.
I think the Xbox used have a much bigger advantage in terms of games when they first started, but that's not the case anymore. Developers have really unlocked the power of the PS3 now....(I think it was easier initially to develop for Xbox.)
