Default The "We want Jeff Van Gundy" Thread

A man who we know can change the face of this defenseless Knick team. We need Van Gundy to come back to the court to show this Knick organization how to win.

I think JVG burned his MSG bridge with Dolan. And I think MD'A is too stubborn to get rid of one of his posse and hire a defensive specialist.
But I am all for having JVG as our head coach.

I know I might be the biggest D'antoni hater on here, but could you imagine if he had a defensive lead assistant coach?

He would have my support.

He is one of the best at offense, I give him credit on that.

He has made adjustments to his own philosophy, I will credit him that as well.

But defense..... he knows nothing about, other than "getting into guys".

Not like I would fully endorse this, but Mike Brown is available.

And he is a Pop disciple, so I know defense will be stressed.

That's one thing you can say about Cleveland when he was there.

They defended on every possession.

Im not sure I want Van Gundy here even though I can't stand D'Antoni.I wasn't a big fan of his when he was here either.Clearly he was better than Mike but still. Give me one of Pop's asst coaches or Ric Adelman. If we keep D'Antoni, hire Mike Brown as an asst!

Franchize is right. Dumbtoni is a terrible coach all around besides I guess his offensive prowess which I dont even think is worth talking about personally. I dont see such innovative plays personally. I wouldnt want Van Gundy here with his grind it out scores like 83-80.

I really enjoy to see score 91-86 or something like that.

When you see that game finished with 120-117 then you can guess there wasn't much intensity.

I completely agree with Knickscity and Franchize on this one. Mike Brown is a great fit as an assistent, he's not a good Head Coach but he's fantastic at getting a defensive unit together. If we keep D'Antoni, he's the guy we should go after.

Count me in on that also. And make it known to MD'A if he doesn't do something with his assistant coaches, here's your walking papers.

Exactly what do coach's brother and Herb Willims bring to the table for us anyway. This is a legit question, because I sure as hell don't know. Feel free to rip me a new one guys if you want. Just make me understand WHY they are here. lol

Van Gundy is a proven head coach. He would stress getting a legitimate Center. Not using your power forward in that position. I really have this strange feeling Amare is purposely not playing defense because he has been quoted as saying that he is not a Center but a Power Forward and would prefer playing his natural position.

Teaming pringles with Mike Brown will not be the answer. Getting a new head coach who will stress defense will make the NYK a much better team.

Van Gundy teams are also known for not being able to score. So essentially, we'd have to let all the guys who are FA go because none of them are scorers.I think the casual fan looks @ Van Gundy and remembers the Knicks going far in the playoffs but forgets than he wasn't a great coach himself. As far as his roster influence, while he may urge management to get a center,he routinely has played mediocre at best point guards big time minutes.Whats gonna happen once Chauncey's contract is up?

I thought Jeff was a good coach.

He was a Riley disciple, and pretty much had some Riley type players.

I would take a 91 -83 game any day of the week, as long as we have the 91.

My only beef with him is that he quit.

Now If he had quit, and then coached years later, or never again, I would have thought it was personal reasons, and I can respect that.

But he turned around and coached another team with only a one year break, and I can't recall him ever addressing why he left.

I know why Riley left, he wanted some of the Knicks "pie".

And people call him a "rat" for that.

If it was the ownership, finish out the season, then walk if need be.

I think Jeff saw his well running dry and bailed, and I don't respect that at all.

I have heard it had upper mgt issues to it, but that's more rumor than fact, and if it's true what make anyone think he'd come back then?

Yeah.
I would rather watch 91-83 game than 120-118 game.

All Van Gundy does is blast the Knicks every chance he gets. If you watched the NBA game on ABC after the Knicks got Melo you would know what I'm talking about. Can't remember the game but I do remember him talking crap and hating on the Knicks. Give Herb a chance.
