Default Re: What happened to Durant's Buzz?

All players tend to get over-hyped in their first breakout year. Durant went from ordinary All Star to superstar last year. It was all new and exciting....thus the "buzz". This year, everyone EXPECTED it....so it's hard to get excited over him and OKC more or less doing the same thing. In fact, what's hurt Durant further is that he's NOT as good as he was last year.

Rose is this year's Durant. It's his first 'superstar' season and it's exciting because it's all new. The hype around him won't be the same next year either.

what happened with Durant's Buzz?

I think because Westbrook is doing much better so now Durant has a sidekick.

That was part of the reason. Durant was everybody's answer to Lebron's narcissicism. Durant capitalized on that during the summer but he lost his buzz because he came back with nothing new added to his game. Derrick Rose got buzz because he obviously locked himself in the gym this summer and went to work and came out a much improved player. Russell Westbrook stole Durant's thunder early because he, like Rose, locked himself in the gym during the summer and also got better.

Kevin Durant came back with the same jumpshooting game, had no new skills to show off and then on top of that came out of the gates slow while Russell Westbrook had the fast start and showed he was just as important to the team's success and was the more multi-faceted player.

You could say for the first part of this statement I was one of those "stat nerds," but after I saw him play I still liked him. Yeah, he's not a highlight guy like LeBron who will cross you or dunk on people a lot, but he's still one of the leagues top players as of now. It's not like a dunk is worth more points than a jumper, and as long as Durant keeps putting up impressive stat lines he still deserves to be talked about as one of the leagues best.

Anything that can be said about the hype has seem to been said on here already. He dropped from the MVP race cause Westbrook stepped up his game and Blake Griffin is a rising young star, and with hype for Griffin it makes for less time to hype Durant.

What the hell are you talking about?......He's improved his ball handling and his defense this season. The improvement of russell westbrook is why the Durant hype has died. Durant has already arrived. He's a better scorer than LeBron, better shooter, better at getting to the line and more clutch. I'd still start a team with Durant over james. He's accomplishing things in his career faster than james did with a young team that lacked depth and a big man.
