So, KG versus Dirk ends up as a case study in how people perceive talent. Pre-Boston, Dirk was seen as superior. Post-Boston, all of a sudden, KG gets a perception as being a better player. Yet all Dirk has done is consistently take his team to 11 50 win seasons. I think he should be applauded for that. But no... not on ISH. On ISH haters are hating.
KG NEVER had the rosters that Dirk had gtfoh, when KG got 34 year old Sam Casell and 33 year old letrwell sprewell he took them straight to the WCF.

What all star players/six man of the year guys did KG play with prior to 04

who are all these allstars that played with him?

the only two he has had since Nash left were Josh Howard and Jason Kidd, both of whom were injury replacements with Kidd only getting in b/c a blizzard hit Dallas during the AllStar break so nobody else could fly in.

while Nash was in Dallas only Nash and Finley made it. Nash just twice and not even in his last year in Dallas. Finley just once and he went into heavy decline before Dirk ever sniffed his prime.

He has played with a few borderline all stars sure. But legit All Stars that made it year in, year out? No way.

his best sidekick since JHo was ruined by injuries and paranoia?

Jason Terry, who is essentially Mo Williams/Bobby Jackson/Aaron Brooks.

Nash was a two time all star while wit dirk
Finley was a two time all star while with dirk and putting up close to 20ppg even when he wasn't an all star
Jamison was sixth man of the year while with dirk
Josh Howard made an all star team put up 17ppg
Jason Terry is a solid 17 ppg

Did KG play with these kind of players in Minny? With the exception of Nash are these guys hall of famers, no, but they aren't scrubs.

I think Dirk is going to be a very good 2nd scoring option on a contending team.

it will be interesting to see how dirk handles his career going forward. i think he might have next year and one more year as a top ten player. after that, he's not going to be a number 1 option anymore.

but if dirk really wants to, I think he could remain a 20 ppg game guy on high efficiency as the 2nd or 3rd guy on a contending team until he's 38 or so.

i really hope he decides to play for a lot longer. I'd love to see him get a few rings on some contending team in a few years that needs a quality/clutch veteran scorer.

but he's obviously still elite now...just don't know how much longer he can keep this up.

KG didn't play with half the help dirk had.

Dirk has hardly played with scrubs. He's played with solid veteran guys that have been very good. Just not great.

Nobody is saying Dirk hasn't played with a ton of good players. He absolutely has. Its a huge reason why the Mavs have been so consistent. However, Dirk has only played with on top 15 player in the league. and that was Nash. Thats it.

Hard to win titles playing good but not great players. Only Duncan and Hakeem have won with that. No other stars have. Which is why its unfair to call Dirk out on not winning. He's not only had limited chances, but even his chances have been significantly worse than the historical championship teams of the last 30 years.
