That being said, I think you could still build a team around a player who isn't a superstar like that. I would say before the 'Melo trade the Knicks were built around Amar'e, and they're a playoff team. You could say that Houston was built around Yao Ming, and he's not one of the best centers to play the game, and a similar situation with Dwight Howard and the Magic.

isn't dirk one of the best pf to play the game

you can build your team around anyone and find
some semblance of success . . . . they're pros

can you find ultimate success is the question

other than hakeem in 94 and duncan in 03.

no superstar has ever won with the kind of talent and coaching Dirk has had.

not one other player. every single other title won by a superstar...they each had an all-nba player or truly elite 2nd option.

LOL

perceptions. i'm about to destroy them all.

and again. dirk's team have over achieved more often than they under achieved. just a simple fact. no debate. its a fact.

LOL

add 2003 to another year of over achieving.

totally forgot that the mavs were actually underdogs in the kings series even though we won more games.

went to game 7.

Dirk:

30 points 19 boards 60% fg 75% 3

yea. you can't build around that.

People seem to want Dirk to have a franchise player next to him doing all the work, but they want Dirk to get the credit.

Being a teammate of Dirks is the most thankless job in the world. You get all of the blame and none of the credit. Dirk gets all the credit for the 10 + years of 50 wins seasons, but his teammates get all the blame of Dirks post-season failings.

Yeah, building a team around Dirk is difficult. They need a physically dominant post presence to pair up with Dirk, like prime Shaq.

hey moron.

dirk never had a pau gasol or manu. he didn't need a first option. he needed a 2nd option.

he had that in nash for a few years:

01 - over achieved and upset the jazz
02 - lost to the kings...kings were just a better team
03 - upset the kings....dirk missed most of the spurs series due to injury
04 - nash got hurt late in the season...was hobbled the entire playoffs

thats it. thats all they had in the playoffs together. 4 years and two of them derailed by injuries.

since then, jason terry has been dirk's 2nd option.

LOL at Dirk needing MJ. He ****ing needed joe johnson.....Give Dirk the guard equivalent of Gasol and he's winning titles left and right.

Oh I think he's faced tremendous criticism for 2006 and 2007, and rightly so. But the last three seasons?

his teammates often get blamed because they suck in the playoffs. are you going to blame Dirk? have you seen him play in the playoffs? the dude is unreal:

26 points 11 boards 3 assists for his career.

best elimination game / game 7 player of this era easily. not even close.

russell westbrook has more offensive rebounds in 2 1/2 years

how do you compensate for that

/thread?

as usual its this:

"dirk choked in the 06 finals and in 2007"

ok? should we ignore that the mavs had to upset the huge title favorites to even make the WCF in 06? Should we ignore Dirk's game 7 against the spurs in 06?:

37 points 15 boards 55% shooting 94% ft

how many players in the history of the game can even do that in a road game 7 against a better team?

seriously?

how is that hard to build around?

so stop ignoring facts:

1. Dirk's teams have over achieved more often than under achieving
2. Only Hakeem and Duncan have won titles without an elite 2nd option in the last 31 years
3. Dirk's rebounding in the playoffs is great
4. Dirk is the best elimination game / game 7 player of this era by a wide margin

LOL

****ing moronic trolls.

destroyed again.

I remember Dirk missing a game tying FT in game 3 of the 2006 NBA Finals that could have potentially put his team up an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

And I remember Jason Terry was the best player on the team in that NBA Finals series and was the NBA Finals MVP favorite if Dirks and his team could have won that series they were favored in.

But yeah, he has pretty good stats in the first round of the playoffs. Except for that time he won had the #1 seed, won MVP and then lost to the #8 seed while shooting 36%.

Dirk's probably my favorite player to watch during the regular season. I could watch him shoot jumpers all season long.

But I'll never pick a team he's the best player on to ever win a ring. Dirk just isn't that type of player. The playoffs are a lot different than the regular season.

As far as building a championship team:

Dirk is the AI of powerforwards...

you have to build your team around his shortcomings...other great players don't have weaknesses as glaring as his.

pls show me a team that would win a championship when put around Dirk...Show me the supporting cast Dirk needs
