ya, weidman's next. this is coming from a nick diaz fan. i just love to watch his fights. he engages and looks to finish. that retirement stunt just left a bad taste in my mouth though. condit didn't run like guida did recently...he stuck and moved. diaz was simply out-gameplanned and shouldn't feel it's his right that fighters should just brawl and slug it out with him.
as much as i'd like to see diaz vs. silva, weidman is simply more deserving right now. he's had a fantastic year
As much as I'd love to see Nick get his face beat for 3 fights, it would never happen. After Silva wins the first one, there would never be a rematch. No reason for it.
easy on that trigger, hoss. i could see diaz' BJJ giving silva problems on the ground. i could see his ability to squirm out of heavy shots giving silva problems in finishing him. i could see his bully-boy standup style giving silva mucho problems in later rounds if he could miraculously make it past the first or second round.
of course most likely what happens would be- silva plays along for half a round, gauging diaz' timing, then waits for diaz to press forward and absolutely clocks him, ending the fight very quickly. but if not, if not... if any of the things above happen, then you're looking at one of the most fascinating fights in recent years. and sonnen proved that you don't have to beat the dude to get a rematch. silva is so much better than everyone else, all you need is a strong challenge to make multiple fights interesting. having a big mouth is only a bonus.
i just can't see nick diaz's strengths posing any threat to silva. diaz has no wrestling pedigree, and anywhere else in the octagon, silva would be heavily favored. silva would love if diaz tried that bully style on him.
i think the guy training with silva here might punch harder than diaz (okay maybe not, im not hating lol)
true, he doesn't have traditional wrestling, but his BJJ is a huge weapon. not saying it would be good if he flopped like werdum against AO, but every time he took a big shot he could very much flop on to his back and be a very risky threat for silva to finish off. nick is not some one-dimensional guy who only has the bully-boy, rat-a-tat style to beat you.
having said that, yea... silva very definitely has the edge. i think we're all rational enough to accept that.
Why would Diaz's BJJ give him a very big problem? When's the last time Nick beat someone with it? All I can remember is a gassed Cyborg. Silva's faced better BJJ guys before and he would have a considerable size advantage against Nick. Why are we even discussing this? What in the hell has Nick done to even be considered for a title shot at MW? He was too scared to fight Mayhem at MW, but now they're supposed to just give him a title shot in a division he's never won a fight in while he lost his last fight and is coming off a suspension? Not to mention he might be the least reliable guy in the UFC, so why is he even in any kind of consideration?
