He should have accepted the fight.Hes the champ he takes on all challengers
Within reason. Facing a different opponent with just 3 days to prepare isn't the smartest idea especially when it's high risk, practically no reward. Jones would get very little out of it while his opponent would stand to gain a lot with a win. It wouldn't be worth the risk for the champ. It may hurt his image a bit, but that can change. It's real easy for people to sit back and say, "Oh, you should have taken that fight and blah blah blah", but we're not in his position and we're not the ones taking the risk.

plus no more then 2 weeks before the whole thing whent down he was on a radio show saying that he would fight sonnen anytime.
That's part of the problem with being famous. A lot of what you say is recorded, so it could possibly bite you in the ass in the future. Like I said, it may hurt his image a bit, but hopefully he'll learn from this. Don't say things you don't mean.

The problem i have is that they gave him the title shot, put him in commercials, sponsored him, didnt discipline him for the DUI and he comes out and refuses to fight sept 1st.
He refused a different opponent. He's the champ and should earn the right to turn down fights against unworthy opponents, which Sonnen certainly was.
Here is the other reason(actually the main reason I give jones a pass on refusing the sonnen fight. In his last 4 fights plus the hypothetical one with Henderson, he has fought or agreed to fight the guys who are clearly the top 5 lhws in the world in a row. Had he beaten hemderson(and perhaps even without it) he already has the best resume of any lhw in the history(admittedly a short history of the sport). Not only has he been dominating, but he's been dominating truly elite competition. He's never ducked anyone. If this was a guy who'd tried to stay out of tough fights(ala Tito trying to avoid chuck) then there would be some room to argue. But for now he's above reproach in that department
Does anyone really think Sonnen would have any chance against Jones? Sonnen's whole game is using his wrestling skill to take guys down and gnp. He doesnt have knockout power or submission skills.
Jones was a college wrestler too. Sonnen isn't going to take Jones down routinely like he does much smaller non wrestlers. I like Sonnen but he would be completely outmatched against Jones.
lol no contest cuz of Arlovski's soccer kick to sylvia's head
yeah dafuq, Arlovski KO'd Sylvia, but due to the lame as open guard rule Onefc needs to change this either no soccer kicks or allow them, wtf you have to wait for the ref to to give permission to kick?
re: the jones debate,
IMO he shouldn't be vilified for turning down sonnen (neither should he be thanked), but he desperately needs to STFU before he keeps hemorrhaging fans. his publicist quit before the 151 blowup and he needs a replacement, yesterday. if he could simply take a vacation from twitter he would avoid probably 75% of the damage right there. but he just keeps putting his foot in his mouth over and over again... every day or two he's posted some new stupid shit that someone, somewhere should have prevented at all costs.
the main thing that matters to me is whether this is good or bad for MMA and the UFC. on the one hand, it makes DFW, the UFC and jones look like real jackasses. on the other hand, if that leads to more press, more interest and more buy-ins, then in the end that's a good thing, no?
or maybe jones and DFW could take etiquette lessons from GSP...... "george's six-day seminar on how to keep your inner child pacified and silent."
What are the rules about soccer kicks in that organization? I don't really get the whole situation right now...
its allowed as long as the ref declares open guard and gives permission to start kicking on the other dude, basically AA didnt check before he started bashing on Timeh, dumb rule, they need to change it. Happened to Roger Hureta in the last One FC fight same scenario but this time it was allowed, Huerta was KOTFO
