Coleman was still decent at the time.Hunts only loss at that time was to big nog and Sylvia wasnt the joke he is today.

Anyways World Series of Fighting is on today on NBC sports channel.

Arvlowski vs Cole is the main event.Also Miguel Torres,JZ,Tyrone Spong,Anthony"Rumble" Johnson and others are on the card.Good card if you get the channel.

Thanks for the heads up, just DVRd it.

Lets see how Spong's world class striking translates to MMA. Anthony is probably fighting at Rumbleweight, hope he can make it.

Coleman was champ briefly in the '90s. He was getting up there in age, had already lost to Fedor, and just wasn't that good. Sylvia was champ of a paperthin UFC HW division. He was overrated for a long time, and he was 1-2 in his 3 previous fights before facing Fedor. He didn't look good in those fights, especially against Couture who came out of retirement after getting KO'd twice at LHW to dominate Sylvia for 5 rounds.

hunt was a badass in his prime

Hunt was slow and one-dimensional, which is why he lost 6 in a row. Also, he wasn't very experienced in MMA when he fought Fedor.

and zulu and HMC were both entertaining as hell.

How so? Both were big/fat, slow as hell, lumbering beasts. I laughed at the Fedor ******gers who tried to build HMC up as a legit threat. That was basically HMC's 1st MMA fight. It was ridiculous that he was facing Fedor. It was nothing more than a stupid freakshow fight. Neither guy had any business fighting Fedor. Entertaining fights? They were both very short fights. Combined, they lasted under 2 and a half minutes.

granted, although technically that's only one possibility. AFAIK the others are:

2) endocrine dysfunction due primarily to genetic factors.
3) decreased testosterone levels due primarily to age.

There are an abnormal number of MMA fighters on it.

Coleman wasn't that good. He was just lucky that Shogun suffered a freak injury in their fight. Coleman semi-retired after that fight. Hunt never faced Big Nog. He had losses to Barnett and Yoshida. Sylvia wasn't the joke back then, but he still wasn't looking that good at the time. He got thoroughly dominated by a guy who retired after getting KO'd twice at 205, then had a close fight with Vera, and then got subbed by Zombie Nog as soon as the fight hit the mat.

@jackass,
i guess those are fair points. still doesn't change the fact that the HW division was never deep and several worthy names simply weren't available to fedor. but i never got the impression that he ever dodged anyone, either. and i still say that HMC and zulu were entertaining matchups. as in, a fight doesn't always have to be classic for the ages in order to be an entertaining event. fact remains that they were fun matchups, there was anticipation in the air, and a good bit of mystique about what would happen. you seem to be a little myopic about the fact that plenty of other champion fighters and boxers went through this same process. doesn't necessarily mean those champs were fighting cans.

of course i know you love to nitpick every little thing to death, so i'll just concede you the field on this issue. it's either that or get in to a 15-post exchange in which you minutely quote and critique every other thought the other person has.

He kind of avoided the UFC by getting into bed with the stupid M-1 org and sticking with them and their nonsense.

They were shitty freakshow fights that shouldn't have taken place, but I guess the integrity of the sport means nothing, right? You don't really gain anything in those matchups, but one of your top guys could take a huge hit were he to somehow lose. Why not just throw Jose Canseco, Herschel Walker, Shaq, JCVD, The Undertaker, Kevin James or someone like that in there with JDS?

Quote:

The only anticipation was from Fedor nuthuggers who pretended like those were legit match ups. Suddenly, HMC is a 10-foot tall, fire-breathing behemoth that only Fedor could beat. Anticipation for the #1 HW going against a slow, uncoordinated kickboxer with no MMA experience and against a 600 lb sack of shit who fought nothing but cans?

What in the hell am I being myopic about? What same process? Fighting a can while you try to sugarcoat it and make the opponent out to be much more than what he really is?

The fuck is the point of making any posts in the first place if you don't want anything to be discussed, and you're just going to cry and run away from what you posted? It's not my fault that you can't handle someone disagreeing with you on anything. "those matches were made they were pretty much all desirable / logical matchups." No they fucking weren't. Fedor went through a stretch of facing guys that he shouldn't have been fighting. He's the top fighter in the world and yet he's fighting guys with little to no experience, a middleweight, an over-the-hill guy he already beat, and bums like Sylvia. Grow some thicker skin. People can disagree with you.

I don't know why this is so hard for you to get.

Spong has to learn that you keep going until the ref stops you or it's at least very clear that your opponent is out.

@jackass,
not so much "thin skin" as not wanting to get into a nit picking fight with someone who can be borderline obsessive. i certainly don't mind people disagreeing with me, especially if it means i learn something new or take on a new POV i hadn't considered before.

Yeah, keep giving them the same stupid song and dance every time I disagree with you. Tell me what the point of discussing anything with you is? I respond to what you're trying to say in a post, but it's 'nitpicking'. That's how forums and discussions work. If you don't want a discussion, then say "I can't defend my posts and I don't want a discussion" instead of the feminine BS you give me. I'm obsessive because I refuted what you said? It's not obsession. It's me trying to understand people's ****edass logic (like now). You don't make any fucking sense and it seems almost pointless to talk with you. Asking you to defend anything you post seems to be too much to ask of you, so what is the point of your posts in the first place? And yes, I like the word "****"

no... no point in my posts. i'm obviously here to wind you up.

but pardon me for having a flawed opinion on something, forcing you to jump in to my reply to someone else and detail all the ways in which i was wrong. what an annoying inconvenience. pardon me also for not being particularly interested in defending every nuance of my highly-flawed POV to your complete satisfaction. again, that must totally suck for you. really, i can't believe you're forced to live in a world in which losers like me exist. it's so incredibly unfair.
