There is a major difference between lowering your guard to bait your opponent into your distance and clowning around.
Silva was clowning way too much and not even throwing anything back. I was getting Demian Maia vs Anderson Silva vibes there. Almost everything Anderson does is straight out of a movie, this is almost a fitting end to that movie.
Sucks that the goat got knocked out being a dick but this way a REALLY good card.
The middleweight division just because one of the more exciting divisions. Weidman vs Belfort, Weidman vs Jacare even Weidman vs Bisping lol.
I pretty much stopped watching MMA after being a hardcore fan (watched every UFC/Pride), when they put in the nonsense of the women's division and recently saw a clip of the Herman vs. Gonzaga fight (lasted 17secs).
Nonsense of the women's division, so you're sexist?
I can't understand for the life of me how
a). Herman got to the UFC
b). Was not cut A LONG TIME ago
c). How anyone could sanction him to fight the way he does
d). Never in my life in fighting have I seen the bigger idiot at the highest level of the sport.
a). Herman was 20-2 with 1 of those losses being a DQ.
b). He should have been cut after his loss to Nog (and 2nd failed test for marijuana), but the only thing I can think of is that it's the HW division and there's not a ton of good HWs out there, so they tend to get more of a chance than other divisions.
It's not even about how loose it was. It was about Silva's position in relation to the hook that caused his head to turn so violently. Only thing stopping Silva's head from doing a 180 was his neck holding on to it.
human anatomy is an interesting topic. my two cents...
yeah having his head relaxed like that , down and away was a mistake ; if you compare that to the shots that Chael B Sonnen (son) landed on the goat. ..notice how Silva turned with the punch to kinda lesson the impact. Hence no knockdown (close)
that not withstanding, Most of you mma junkies also know, in combination to that, "its that the shot you don't see that hurts the most" because your brain isn't ready for it
Weidman put on a great fight. He was game..that first round was fantastic Both fighters gave as well as they took. props
Anderson got what he deserved in that fight. The worst kind of loss is when you try to make your opponent look like a fool but then get clowned yourself.
Good job by Weidman. Looking forward to the rematch.
There's not going to be a rematch. Silva said he doesn't want to fight for/with the title anymore.
I'm not going to say Silva didn't take the fight seriously, but I think it gets to a point where he didn't have anything to accomplish anymore as the champ. He beat everyone in his division pretty much. I think anyone who's been this dominant of a champion has to lose something inside of them that drives them to be the very best fighter that they can be.
It was bound to happen. One guy was just super hungry to eat and the other guy was vomiting from years of overfeasting.
