trying to catch up on some recent fights i missed...
shogun - hendo: both guys looked disappointing TBH. hendo had almost nothing working except for his one big punch and cautiousness... assuming that's worth a mention. otherwise, his movement, kicks, wrestling, jab, combo-work, setups and aggression looked anywhere from weak to dreadful. on the other side, shogun's kicks, movement, aggression and jab looked solid, if not terrific. the most disappointing thing to me is the way he had a long period of top position in the 2nd and couldn't do a damn thing with it. notably, he failed to work for position and he failed to take the body shots that were open to him, being obsessed with attacking hendo's head, apparently. yea, i'd rather not see either of these guys as headliners again... not that DFW cares, or anything.
machida - mousasi: jesus, now why did i watch that? oh well, machida should be able to give weidman lots and lots of problems.
gustafsson - manawa: pretty amazing how a somewhat skinny, slightly flabby guy like gusty can just dominate a beast like manawa. gusty's pace, movement, athleticism and wrestling are outstanding for being as tall as he is. also, he seems to have an unusually high talent for making the right decision at any given moment.
i think chances are very high that either gusty or cormier upset jon jones, assuming those fights happen.
I don't know, I think Jones beats him by a fairly decent margin if they fight again. He seems like a guy who will go to extreme lengths to improve himself after a close fight.
agreed on the second thing. plus... jackson's. OTOH the same thing is probably true of gustafsson.
going by interviews, statements and general behavior, gusty looks like the guy who badly wants the rematch, while jones acts like the guy who wishes gusty would just go away. guess we'll see.
interesting to see cyborg get smacked (or mostly kneed) around in her recent kickboxing loss. i just hope nobody uses it as an excuse to hold her back from fighting rousey. i mean, cyborg would have annihilated that tall dutch girl if it was an MMA match, what with her clear strength and grappling advantage. still... pretty interesting to see gorilla woman lose, for once.
jorina baars, who just beat cyborg... pretty cute!
