not trying to single you out too much, but it sounds like you barely follow MMA.

the UFC has nothing to do with the judges... they are appointed by the state. dana and other professionals in the sport are frequently surprised and outraged by judges' scores and would love nothing better than to have more control over the process.

also, most if not all of these judges come from a different sport in the first place... one of the most notoriously corrupt sports in the world... i.e. boxing.

You gotta beat the champion... He didn't get beat, yet they give the decision against him.

Ridiculous.
the "double standard" is clearly in some peoples minds and nowhere else. johny has been on the VERY FORTUNATE side of at least three razor-close decisions, and knows damn well how much coasting and stalling can cost him.

"don't leave it in the hands of the judges" is fighting 101, which is why you have someone like the mauler saying he absolutely has to finish jones next time around.

then again, he has to get past a beast to even face jones again. i would not be surprised if pretty soon rumble is the #1 contender for cormier's belt.

I was pulling for Lawler, but there's no way he won 3/5 rounds. Besides the first 60 secs and the last 60 secs of the fight, Lawler really didn't do much at all. He defended TD's, moved forward, and took shots.

MMA gets more like Boxing every day. I won't be paying for Lawler vs. Hendricks 3.

I also thought the 2nd or 3rd rounds could have been 10-8 rounds for Hendricks. Lawler literally did nothing but walk forward and take shots in these rounds. I'm not one to use statistics to judge a fight, but I would be interested to see the striking numbers.

i'm leaning towards cormy winning the belt on jan 5th, and rumble upsetting gus on the 24th. so yea... i wouldn't be surprised if the picture looks completely different in a month and a half.

did you see that UFC earnings were way down this year? their saturation strategy seems to be backfiring hard...

Judges rigged it to be a trilogy.

Also, Pettis looked impessive, I want to see him fight Aldo next year.

just rewatched the big fight and some conclusions:

- lawler took rounds 1 @ 5 pretty easily, while hendricks took 2 @ 3 even more easily. but putting aside the unusual event of judges scoring a 10-10 or 10-8, that made round 4 the swing round.

- i thought lawler's biggest mistake in this fight was coming out too aggressively and then having to pace himself the rest of the way. he's normally the better striker, so you have to think he would have done fine as it was... also probably wouldn't have eaten so many shots, either. seeing the other guy get the better of him with kicks was expected... seeing him get outstruck by punches on the feet was not.

- hendricks keeps getting better (hats off to him), but his takedown attempts did not work at all. that is, the few times he landed on top or got the upper hand on the fence, he got tied up and pretty much just squandered time. the rest of his shots were all stuffed, and a couple of them even backfired badly in rounds 4 and 5 when he got hammered in the clinch. i think he needs to stop putting his head between the other man's legs, grind it into the other man's face instead and learn how to sneak in a variety of punches and elbows like cain velasquez.

- hendrix clearly won the shots-landed battle, but lawler probably won the damage battle and landed the lion's share of the biggest shots.

- as for that round 4... i'm fine with it going either way, and therefore the fight as a whole going either way, but if there's one thing we often see it's that late surges can often steal a round. just like jones stealing his own round 4 with those vicious elbows on gus, i felt like lawler probably stole this round 4 by punishing hendricks when he was sprawled under him like a gasping fish.

- that one judge's scorecard was indeed ridiculous for giving round 2 to lawler, but i don't think it swung things nearly as much as people think. i mean, correct that one error and you still have a pretty reasonable scorecard... 2, 3 for hendricks, 1, 4, 5 for lawler.

- when hendricks straightens a couple problems out (cardio might be another one), i can definitely see him reclaiming the belt one day. he's become a fine kicker and seems to be getting more clever with his punches all the time.

I had Robbie winning 1 and 5 easily and I gave him the edge in the 4th, Hendrix clearly won 2 & 3. But it could have easily gone either way, if you judged the fight as one round you probably give it to Hendrix.

I don't understand why the UFC insists on putting shithouse HW's on the main card like Todd Duffee/Brandon Schuab and whoever the other guy (not Travis Browne he's solid)was instead of quality all around fighters like Fabar and that other guy (who got eye poked). Yeah the KO's everyone wants to see but the quality of the fights is terrible in the HW division unless you got top 10 guys going at it.

Pettis after 15 months out to finish Gil was pretty crazy.

The CM Punk thing but

Haven't watched any UFC since the GOAT knocked Poirier the f*ck out. The last few cards haven't interested me at all, but UFC 182 will be epic just for that Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight. Very excited for some MMA again.

Also, CM Punk signing along with the Brock Lesnar rumours are big news. Lesnar will bring legitimacy back to the heavyweight division and was their biggest draw before he left. Punk will bring a lot more wrestling fans over and should be another big draw. I won't count him out like everyone else is, because I don't have a clue about his MMA background, apart from being very good at BJJ. UFC is getting very good again with the rise of McGregor, Lesnar, Punk, Rousey and the returns of Silva and GSP soon hopefully.

BTW, will Punk be called by his real name of Phil Brooks like every other fighter, or will he stay as CM Punk?

Lesnar was a top fighter when healthy. Overeem was roided up to shit when he fought Lesnar, now he sucks again. Also, Brock was f*cked up with diverticulitis.

Was the biggest draw in the UFC too. How doesn't that bring back legitimacy? Nobody cares about anyone in the HW division anymore apart from Velasquez.
