Damn. Pettis had his one big shot when he got Guida's back there in the 3rd. I was really hoping he would get a sub there but looks like Guida will take the decision. I don't mind Guida but I don't think he's a serious contender for the title.
Great fight though. This is exactly the type of non-title fight that I wish could go 5 rounds.
I don't normally complain about lay n pray, and I think the term gets overused, but that was pure LnP by Guida. He literally did nothing after the take downs except those little shoulder strikes. He looked scared of getting tapped more than anything and was just milking clock. Sad. I am glad to see the Pettis hype train die down though.
No surprise that Tony won there. He looked dominant in the house. I expected him to easily win the striking battle and Ramsey to look for takedowns but Tony looked pretty good on those takedowns and even controlled him on the ground a bit. Ramsey looked tired after that flurry he threw. They were the two best fighters on the show so I'm glad they made it to the finals. Tony looks like a damn solid striker.
stoppage looked early to me though
No way. Did you see Ramsey's face and how he totally lost his legs after that shot? The ref saved him from a brutal beating.

Same. I get that with the current rules it's a viable strategy that can lead to wins so I won't complain about guys like Fitch or <insert anyone who is fighting Dan Hardy> because they are exploiting an opponents weakness. But in this fight, Pettis seemed to be far more active off the ground and seemingly got no credit for it.
I'm not liking the new 5 round rule. It means some fights will end up with 66% extra time based purely on sell-ability. I imagine training and game planning for a 5 round fight is much different from a 3 rounder. With the number of cards being put out now, there have been some amazingly weak main and co-main events. Two more rounds of that? I dunno, it seems kind of messy and WWE like to me.
It's very rare that a matchup actually deserves 5 rounds, title or not. Ugh two more rounds of wrestle-boxing or lay-n-pray or counter punchers punching air? I dunno man. I'm actually in favor of maybe doing an overtime format where there's a fourth round in the face of a draw.
