i hope franklin smashes his ugly head. wanderlei made some stupid-ass comments about belfor wimping out because of the broken hand. most ignorant stuff i've heard from an MMA fighter in a while, and that's saying something.
I consider Fedor's fall from grace around 2007 against Tim Sylvia when he began swinging rather than setting up his brilliant takedowns and using fear of them to open up his boxing game. It is a sign of how brilliant Fedor is as a fighter that he proceeded to beat 3 more top 10 heavyweights while doing nothing but "swinging".
Against Andre Arlovski the cracks were beginning to show, Arlovksi seemed to be picking Fedor apart before he attempted a flashy jumping knee against the ropes which Fedor pounced on, having seem him use it against Ben Rothwell in his last fight. The most amazing part of this fight with Arlovski, however, is Fedor's defense. So subtle that it actually seemed as though he was getting hit. After the fight some fans made gifs of Arlovski's effective offense against Fedor, only to realise that there was none!
Notice, in Arlovski's best moment of offense, he actually fails to land a clean shot on Fedor, who sloppily parries the first shot, then misses his parry of the right straight but takes it on his shoulder instead (combining it with his signature back-step). It then glances his head but has negligible impact. Fedor looked flustered, and was slowing down for sure, but the best boxer in the division at the time couldn't land a clean blow on him.
Chiesa wins TUF which is a nice story. As good as he looked on the ground, Chiesa looked REALLY bad on the feet all season. It's hard to see him as anything of note unless he improves significantly there. Brookins is another one-dimensional TUF winner who has looked underwhelming.

Brookins is a good fighter, its just that he is dealing with someone like Charles Oliveria. Anyone that's not a wrestler is going to have a very tough time against Olivera because of his speed/technique on his feet and ground.
I do agree Fedor started losing because he became to much of a brawler. Fedor brawled with Dan Henderson. That fight blows my mind still to this day.
Chiesa seems to have the resolve/resiliency/toughness to make it far if he can improve in other areas like the aforementioned striking. He's the type that can look awful for a round or 2, but then come back and dominate.
I had no expectations for Brookins beating Olivera. None. But really, other than one lucky strike he got in on Rocha, all Brookins has shown is the ability to get takedowns and do little with them. It's a shame because he seems like a likable dude. It just adds to my doubts about the TUF casts getting really watered down lately. It would be nice if a big-time young prospect could emerge from that show.

Agreed on all points. I really wanted to see Chiesa win cuz he seems like a genuinely good guy and he had good motives for fighting thru all this, but on his feet the guy looks terrified. He's got that natural length so on the ground he's deadly like a spider, but on his feet he looked like a 7th grader who just got into his first fight at school.
Still a good story though, and a very hot gf (or sister maybe) who came in with his mother after the fight

sounds like his standup exchange game needs a lot of work. but TBH, i became an instant fan merely from watching his beard discussion with roy nelson:
UFC president Dana White has declared himself "at war" with EA over the development of the EA Sports MMA video game. According to White, the UFC had hoped that EA Sports would pick up the publishing rights to the UFC's video game license, but EA Sports declined. White remarks, "EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'" The UFC instead partnered with THQ to develop UFC 2009 Undisputed. "We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world," White told reporters in July 2009. "We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now God-damn EA Sports wants to do a video game.
In response to these allegations, EA Sports have since claimed that Dana White held a meeting with EA in Los Angeles, who are responsible for such games as The Sims; a separate entity from their EA Sports brand.
Additionally, the fact that EA Sports began development of EA Sports MMA before UFC 2009 Undisputed was initially released led credence to the notion that the development of EA Sports MMA was not reactionary.
White warned the fighters who intend to be included in the upcoming EA Sports MMA game release, claiming that "If you do business with EA, you won't be in the UFC". Former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, as well as Frank Trigg and Vladimir Matyushenko confirmed their presence in the EA Sports MMA video game. Fan favorite Randy Couture was under contract with UFC before agreeing to be a part of EA Sports MMA, but is able to take part in the game due to never signing over his likeness to the UFC for use in video games. White has since changed his standpoint on this subject.
On June 4th, 2012, Dana White, along with THQ, announced that the UFC game license had been transferred to EA Sports, who will now produce the next cross-platform UFC game.

i don't get why Dana caved. If EA couldn't use the top MMA fighters in UFC or Strikeforce, how good can that game be? especially compared to UFC/THQ's game that has all of the big names. Why not take EA on? THQ aren't a bad company to have making games for you. Granted EA is the standard for sports games but without the stars it can't be that great. Theres also the possibility he had to make every current fighter he has re-sign the contract to include video games so that might be it, or maybe being afraid of EA paying them more than they make in UFC? that'd be funny
