That's all fine and good, but how many NBA titles did he win with good players? Why are you gonna compare both leagues that i'm sure you realize are considerably different in many ways, on the basis that both play basketball in some form or another. Can you even acknowledge that basketball is played differently in Europe than it is in North America?

As for D'Antoni over other vetern coaches available: Who ?? Who next year?

I am unsure if the guy is a winner in the finals but he did take teams (with quality players) deep into the playoff in multiple years.

I dunno the answer tho I think I smell - smoke.

Who else is out there not committed ?

I'm with Toni, with comments like that on Canada's team's board, GTFO.
The NBA has the best players, but coaching in Europe is at least as good as in NBA. You can see it in international competitions with team USA.
I won't adress your second paragraph because you are just showing off your ignorance.

Great, so lets bring in a European head coach, a European assistant coach, a roster of 12-15 European players, get a European general manager, and have a European owner and change our name to the Euro-Raptors. Or....to make it easy on yourself since that's never gonna happen, you can just watch the Euroleague which has everything you want, and nothing further to discuss or complain about.

IMO, you say **** off to his European credentials and look at what hes done over the past 8 years in NBA, which includes too many playoff eliminations on very good teams, and a team that is struggling with 2 superstars on it.

He was a champion, in Europe. The NBA is completely different. Yeah go ahead look at your competitions with the USA, fact is FIBA ranks USA number 1 in the world. To be at least at good, you would think that a European team has to be above the USA team.

Coaching in Europe is a lot easier then it is in the NBA. The players aren't as good so as a result players are more easily replace in the event of disention, read this years Pistons. Ego's arent the issue they are like in the NBA.

IMO coaching a European team for an NBA coach would be a dream if it wasen't for the fact that it's not the best game available.

Euro league coaches, as has been said before could not handle todays NBA player.

Rather you then D'Antoni to take over for Jay. D'Antoni would jizz having Bargs at the 3 point line all day.

This is so retarded on so many different levels that it's not even worth commenting it.
I hope it was posted out of rage, because if you actually think that you're really ignorant.

I would call it an overstatement that he probably said while he was annoyed but I wouldn't necessarily even call it totally untrue. Being a great coach or great player in another league (and in this case, another league and another country does not automatically qualify you to be a great coach in the NBA. Just like for example being a great college player with college championships doesn't automatically mean you are gonna be a stud when you enter the league.

So what does it mean then you ask? It means that the guy has potential. If you apply for a job for instance, you're going to list all the credentials from your previous job in your experience section. Then, the employer is going to look at all that you've done and say "hey, this guy did great in his other companies, let's see what he can do for us." BUT, at a certain point after a trial basis, they are going to stop giving you credit based on what you did for your previous company, and judge you based on what you've done for their company (aka the NBA). And that's the point where D'Antoni is at right now. His success in Euroleague hasn't transferred to success in the NBA. He bombed as a coach of the Nuggets in the 98-99 lockout season with a 14-36 record. Then when he became the Suns head coach he was given one of the most talented rosters in the entire league. The best pg in the league at the time Steve Nash, a young stud in Amar'e Stoudemire, an All-Star in Shawn Marion and one of the deepest rosters in the league. Year after year, his run and gun style brought regular season success and massive failure in the playoffs. They had the talent and the tools to win it all, they had all the right pieces, but they had the wrong coach. That's just my opinion.
