no i don't think so.... it isn't known just yet but there's a sneaking collective hunch that "dragonsteel" and "valyrian steel" are synonymous. and if sam's dragon shank can kill an other, chances are it can withstand an other's sword.

Basically he had enough of Jaime's smartass comments and was butthurt over how Jaime tried to goad him into selling out. The most important line was: "You are nothing without your daddy and he is not here...This should help you remember that" Then he chopped his sword hand off.

Please no spoilers, and Dragonglass (obsidian) is not the same as Valyrian steel, Dragonglass is fragile and shatters pretty easily.

sorry not synonymous then but each of their power is rooted in the same source... valyrian is just forged into a sword. i remember sam saying he thought they had a lot of similarity while he was reading up in castle black's library

i imagine they both derive their power from dragon/shadow/etc side of the spirit world and thus are rather potent against the others

and right you are, post deleted

Obsidian is said to be frozen dragonbreath(fire) which is why it can kill them instantly, I think that's what you are referring to. Valyrians used to make candles out of Dragonglass, other than that I don't know if there is knowledge about how Valyrians forged their steel. It's said that they enchanted their steels with magic while forging it and that's why it's so powerful.

I really can't enter this thread at all after watching the show. Perhaps someone make a new thread for the TV show only and not discuses each episode in comparison to what you read in the book. Its pretty annoying.
