I understand about the kingsguard, I remember the whole thing with Jaime, but I was under the impression that you had to volunteer for it. Moreover you would think a powerful family like the Tyrells who control one of the 7 kingdoms could resist.
You could refuse....but a knight who cares about his vows to obey wouldnt do it. Its the greatest honor a knight can get. Plus...Loras is gay. He doesnt want to marry a woman anyway. He would accept it happily just to keep his little squires and so on around him.
Tywin is using the Mad King tactic. He only named Jaime to the Kingsguard to rob tywin of his heir. Remember Tywin in season one going off on Jaime about being a glorified bodyguard? And Tyrion telling him this season that legally hes the heir since Jaime cant hold lands or titles? Tywin knows better than anyone that its a problem to have a guy on that level named to the kingsguard.
Its an honor for low born knights. For a Jaime or Loras who is an heir to major shit(Jaime is supposed to be warden of the west...Loras the south) its a screwjob. The only people above the wardens are the King, hand of the king, and I guess the regent when the King is too young. Normally the Wardens(Ned, Tywin, Mace Tyrell, and I guess John Arryn at the start) are one notch below the Kings hand. They rule whole sections of the continent. Imagine being given all of eastern North America. You dont give that up to join the secret service. Not normally.
Jaime had his own reasons but they will cover that later...or make up a new story. Jaime gets pretty well covered like...season after next at this rate.
Loras would probably do it just to not have to get married.
