Personally, I was more blown away by the very end of SOS than I was the Red Wedding. I kind of figured the Freys wouldn't just let that kind of effrontery slide and they would get their revenge in a big way, maybe not to the extent that it ended up being though. Guys know how to hold a grudge
But the first appearance of ***SPOILER ONLY IF YOU LOOK IT UP*** Lady Stoneheart knocked me on my ass.
I think that image and that quote 'she don't ****... but she *******' would be the most epic way to cap the season.
Is it possible they didn't film Grey Winds epic last stand because of those crazy animal organizations? I don't remember many animal deaths except when Mountain sliced his horse head off...
They didn't show how Ygritte shot that deer in I think 8th episode, how Ned killed Lady, how wildlings killed that old guy's horse, etc...
EDIT - They killed a horse in season 1 in Mirri Maz Durr scene with Drogo and Dany, don't remember any seen animal killing past season 1.
So was that Roselyn Frey really one of his daughters? Seemed too hot to be in that freak family.
If she was, then Robb really ****ed up badly, the only reason he didn't honor his oath was because of Cat basically telling him all their daughters were ugly as ****. Robb's face at that moment was straight outta Saw. If he knew he coulda had a nice beautiful wife and Frey's support, he may have actually won the war.
I somehow have avoided all spoilers regarding this past episode and the next one....and anything really. All I know for sure is someone "wins" (saw kblaze write that while scanning this page) and that Jaqan returns at some point.
The person who "wins" will be some person under the shadows right now. If I had to power rank it I would say:
1: Little Finger
2: Arya Stark
3: Bran Stark
I think Daenares is too easy. Too predictable.
I can't ****ing wait for next week and future seasons.
And the show did a poor job of explaining just how major it is to do what the Freys did.
You see them all eating bread and little bowls of salt when they came in?
Thats because once someone eats your food(usually bread and salt) its the worst crime possible to hurt them. They are your guests and under your protection. He invited them in....took them under his protection...and killed everyone. Thats what Tryion meant in the preview for episode 10 saying the North wont forget. Frey broke every rule and everyone tied to it is cursed to the north.
Far as Boltons place...
Remember Joffreys mom explaining to him that the North cant be held by an outsider? Its like.....canada sized. But less is just straight ice/woods. Its the size of all the rest of the kingdom put together. And they wont just follow anyone. Especially not someone from the south. Different gods.....way of life. And you cant rule them against their will once winter comes. They know how to make it. People from the south die without their help up there.
Imagine being from Miami and being shipped to rule over Alaska 3000-5000 miles from home with no food/help but what the people there give you.
It takes months just to get there. If they dont accept your rule you cant rule them.
So the Lannisters needed someone from the North to rule for them.
The only other Starks...the Karstarks(Karhold Starks...shortened to Karstarks over generations)....their lord is dead.
The Umbers lord is supposed to be killed or at least captured at the Wedding with Robb but he was written out. I think the actor didnt want to return or something.
I think there is one more....Glovers perhaps? But I think hes dead.
Just leaves Bolton as a major north lord who the north might follow if they had to.
So the Lannisters make him Warden of the North in place of Ned.
North wouldnt accept someone like Littlefinger or.....some random Lannister. Had to be someone from the North.
So they found someone from the north who also happened to be an asshole and offered it to him.
Works out. For now.
I know Howland Reed lives in the swamps..but since he's one of Ned's bannermen wouldn't he technically be of the North and eligible to be warden of the north?
Howland Reed hasn't done much since he helped Ned defeat Ser Arthur Dayne. One character who is the Lord of White Harbour has big plans for the North. We should meet him in the next season or so.
I have a feeling he's gonna be bad ass once he shows up. also, don't forget that ned's brother is still missing and might still be alive. i know alot of people think he might have already reappeared in the books under a different guise..
