Just to go back to the discussion that Trollsmasher and Kblaze were having, you guys forgot to mention that the dothraki are mainly mounted archers and the description of their attacks are very similar to the mongol hordes with the cavalry firing arrows backwards and while moving making them extremely difficult to be hit by enemy arrows.

Also not sure where in the book it says that they go to war naked, like the mongols they probably wear leather armor.

The chick that plays Lysa Arryn is perfect. Just the right mix of highborn mannerisms and batshit craziness. Anyone ever been with a screamer like that?

Right. I like how she had the septon just outside ready to go. Question: Does this make LF lord of both Harrenhall and The Vale?

Not really, the lord of the Vale is Robert not Lysa. She rules as his regent since she is his mother, but when he grows of age he will hold all the power.

I hate how the show is overstating the power of women. Leading show watchers to believe women are capable of ruling in the asoiaf universe.

Westeros is based on medieval europe. its unrealistic to have women in power.

The book does a better job of showing how women might manipulate men, but that they don't have power directly.

Eg. if you only watched the show, you would think that Olenna tyrell was more powerful than her son Mace, or that Catelyn stark had power. Or that cersei was particularly powerful.

In this particular case though, since lysa's son is so weak and dependant on her she has power.

its too bad the show doesnt have time to show the politics of the 9 regions of westeros (i am including the crownlands/dragonstone)

Jon Arryn's significance as warden of the east and how powerful his armies are, were never explored.

Yea, if Lysa weren't such a bitch and joined the North they would have won the war pretty easily, if i am not mistaken the army that 5 of the strongest Vale lords can amass quickly is like 20.000 strong.

Best part about Season Four is that they are including so many minor characters that in previous seasons, they just merged a lot of minor characters into one character.

Still pissed they never casted Garlan Tyrell. Dude is a badass.

I want to see how they will portray Cersei as the series goes on, because in book 4 when we finally get her POV she is just pure fun.

No matter how much training and discipline, I don't understand how the unsullied are so formidible. Have Dany's unsullied done anything epic in the books yet? It would be a pretty cool twist if they turn out to not be very good soldiers once they get to westeros and just get steam rolled.

I know they killed the dothraki, but it sounds like that battle was basically just waves of cavalry charging in to a disciplined spear wall. Don't see how they would fare very well against Westerosi knights. They fight mainly with spear which is good but their strength disadvantage must be enormous.
The book mentions that eunuchs are physically weaker than "full men" but that the unsullied make up for it through discipline, and a lack of fear of death or pain. The key in the books is that they lack fear of either pain or death. They have been tortured to such an extent growing up that their lives are meaningless to them. They have never surrendered and will always fight to the death. When dany first encounters the unsullied, to prove to her the truth of the legends the slave master cuts off the nipple of an unsullied soldier. He doesn't even flinch.

They take drugs that dull their ability to feel pain.

In the books the unsullied are a legendary force. they are considered by basically everyone to be the best military force in existence. They can march long distances, quickly, never break formation and fight to the death. I wont talk about anything they do in the future.

There most famous battle was the battle of Qohor, where 3000 unsullied fought a force of 50,000 dothraki.

At the end there was only 600 hundred unsullied alive, but they had not broken lines, (its implied that any other force would have) and they killed 12000+ dothraki. The dothraki charged 18 times and wheeled their archers around 3 times to rain arrows on the unsullied. The dothraki honored the unsullied by all cutting off their top braids and giving it to the unsullied, as a sign that they conceded defeat.
