Jorah fights more on the show than in the books. They never even mentioned him fighting like they did when he Dario, and Grey worm took yunkai. He commanded more than he fought.

Jaime fights more on the show than in the books. He didnt even fight Ned in the books and every other fight from the books in on the show.

Ser Barriston I dont believe draws a sword until book 5 though he had a couple fight with a staff.

Robb never fights in the books. Just talk about the aftermath.

The books are violent without much swordfighting.

He isn't the commander, he's part of a council that is running things until a new Lord Commander is elected by the Nights Watch.

I don't know. I think they could definitely do a better job of showing some of these guys who are supposed to be the best in the land... being the best in the land.

Minor quibble.

They don't really "show" to many fights in the books either though, surprisingly there are few fights in the books. Most everything is talked about past tense

Pretty sure Ned and Jaime do fight in the books. Other than that, agreed.

Yeah. I agree. I feel like they done a very solid job at hyping up The Mountain.

The Oberyn-Tyrion scene was great. Tyrion's reaction just sold the "Fuck yeah!" moment. This season has been my favorite of the series so far. The acting and events are great.

Still on Storm of Swords, book 3, right? Just shows how crazy and awesome that book is. Even though the show added some elements from other books of the series and added their own thing. Some of the things that that they change are good, some are meh. But that's aside the point.

This past episode was awesome.

I think they've made it pretty clear what a badass Oberyn is and I'm not sure how they could have feasibly shown him at his best without completely sidetracking the many narratives they already have in progress. I mean, I guess they could have gone a little further with the whole altercation in the brothel during his initial introduction on the show, but then they also couldn't make the guy that he manhandled too good/important either, or he would have faced some sort of punishment since he put a sword through the guy's hand for basically no reason.

The actor was so wonderfully chosen, he has an aura about him that just says "badass" without him really having to show it... yet. You don't have that kind of swag if you're just some decent knight. The guy basically strolled into King's Landing openly declaring war on the Lannisters and, not only does no one dare to challenge him, they've actually been catering to him. That's a badass. I don't care who his family is or what rank he holds... His brazen disdain for the ruling family likely would not be tolerated if he wasn't such a legendary fighter.

I don't think they did.

Great scenes in the prison with Jaime, Bronn and Oberyn. Tyrion's reaction at the end of scene with Oberyn was great.
Littlefinger is such a boss

Quote:
The three Stark guardsmen have drawn their swords but it is three against twenty, so Ned reminds Jaime that if he dies, Catelyn will kill Tyrion. Jaime doesnít believe him but is unwilling to chance it, so he tells his men not to harm Ned. Yet Jaime refuses to leave Ned entirely unchastened so he orders Nedís guardsmen killed. Ned and his men are quickly overwhelmed and Heward and Wyl are cut down. Jory manages to break free, but returns almost immediately and is killed. In the confusion, Nedís horse slips and falls and Ned is blinded by the pain of his leg breaking.
When he opens his eyes again, Ned drags himself through the mud. When Littlefinger and the gold cloaks finally arrive they find him cradling Joryís dead body. He is returned in horrid pain to the Tower of the Hand, where Grand Maester Pycelle attends to his injury.

Correct... they do not "show" the fight in the books. My bad.

They could have thrown in a Oberyn/Jaime conversation during the Purple Wedding instead of that stupid eye contact with Loras or that useless Cersei/Brienne conversation. That would have made the fanboys cream their pants.

Fair enough. I guess they could have worked it into the dialogue a bit more. I never read the books, though, and I knew immediately this dude was not to be f#cked with, so they must have chosen to convey it, but more subtly.

I would ask for your rankings of the best fighters in Westeros, prior to Jamie losing his hand, but that would have the potential to spoil things so I will hold off for a couple weeks. Oberyn, Gregor, Jamie, Hound, etc.

Had an interesting talk with some Game of Thrones people on another forum for GoTs.

Brought up this question, wanna know what you guys think.

What if when Renly died, and Olyenna (Margarey's grandma who killed Joferry) was at the camp, and brokered a deal with Catelyn to marry Robb to Margarey.

What would have happened?

Probably trouble for the Lannisters. Sounds to me like Tywin actually needed the Tyrells more than they needed the Lannisters. They were sort of the most valuable free agents when Renly was offed. Whoever landed them was probably going to take the throne.

At least, that's how I perceived it.

I'm sure there was some backstory to the Stark/Tyrell relationship, though, that may have made this unlikely... or not? Book readers?

Sort of sad for the NBA that I'm way more into GoT than I am the ongoing playoffs. :/

Do you think part of the deal would have been for Robb to usurp the Iron Throne? Do you think he would have accepted?

Stannis might not have been fvcked as much as you think.

If the Tyrells side with The North and The Trident, then Twyin would have most likely been surrounded and thus not being able to liberate the siege of King's Landing.

Stannis would have piked all Lannisters in Kings Landing, and claimed the Iron Throne.
