I can see the Knicks taking on someone's contract, but not that one.
I think Donnie would tell Dolan hell no to that one.
But I agree the Knicks may be willing to pick up someone star player if that team struggles.

Favorite play? Racing down court to jack up a three with no one under the basket.
He's a shooting guard who's forced to occasionally throw a pass to keep up appearances. Terrible instincts and i.q. for the position, doesn't create for his team mates, doesn't make them better.
too many tards to count on the ISH anymore....
He's only a finals MVP playing PG... but clearly he's just a chucking SG.........
Re: Knicks keep Chauncey Billups for 2011-12 season
The Knicks take a huge step backwards if they do not keep him. They already lack much talent outside of Amare and Melo, Billups provides a leadership that both Amare and melo havnt shown consistently over their careers.
Its a win win for them to keep him. If they do well, then they keep him for the season. If they struggle, he is a nice trade piece given his talent and contract size.
Toney Douglas is a nice young player, but not anywhere near what Billups can provide. Even at 34, he is still an impact player
Re: Knicks keep Chauncey Billups for 2011-12 season
I really never saw the logic in not picking up the option. Like I'd understand if it moved us way under the cap, but it wouldn't have. It's just a matter of more money that Dolan has to pay. Not only was there no PG nearly as close to Chauncey available, but he's pretty much our best trade asset with his massive expiring contract.

Eh type of move. Don't think it would help either team out.
I would do this in a second. Sure it bites into 2012 cap space, but to have a guarantee of a PG like Nash and an up and coming starting center in Gortat, along with a solid, albeit overpaid bench player like Warrick/Frye/ Childress would be too much to pass up. Not to mention, that would make the team perfect for D'antoni's system. The bench would filled out with some signings like Shawne Williams, Shane Battier and Nazr Mohammed or Jeff Foster.

How often do you watch him play? Honestly, it sounds like you haven't seen him since the 2004 Finals. Allen Iverson won an MVP award playing point guard, but he's really a tiny shooting guard. And he's probably a better passer than Billups.
Re: Knicks keep Chauncey Billups for 2011-12 season
It's a solid move.
They retain his expiring contract which will probably be peddled heavily for a star in a Carmelo-like situation (i.e. Dwight Howard, CP3 or Deron Williams).
Even if that doesn't pan out, Chauncey plays an earthbound floor game. He's a pretty solid player that'll be inexpensive to retain for the next few years. Plus, you have to consider that if they just let him expire, that cap space won't go anywhere useful because there are no good free agents this summer. You might as well keep him to "preserve" the cap space for another year.
