Adrien Broner swagger jacks Floyd Mayweather so much its kinda scary. Not only does he pull off the same mannerisms, he even resembles Floyd...

Talented boxer no doubt but IMO he is imitating Floyd JR (perhaps adding more flair to make him look original but its not fooling anybody)

Fake proposal got a chuckle out of me though when I saw it....dude had me

My thoughts on Broner...

He is Kobe to Floyd's MJ. During Kobe's initial first few years in the league, he was not a well liked player outside of LA and it was largely due to people seeing him as a cheap knockoff of the real thing.

It took him a long time to overcome that stigma, but he finally did carve out his own place in league history and wasn't just looked at as a Fugazi.

Broner has even taken it a few steps beyond the Kobe/Jordan thing. He literally is trying to be a carbon copy... Right down to his facial expressions. It is a little creepy. He needs to make his own way in this sport and, quite honestly, he has too much potential to be relegated to a cheap knockoff of an all-time great.

He could be a real superstar in the game, but I think in order to really capture the public's attention, he is going to have to deviate from his current persona a bit. People don't like knockoffs... They like to feel like they are watching a one of a kind talent.

All of that said, he does have an interesting fighting style. Of course, on the outset, he looks like he is just using Floyd's version of the Philly Shell, but there are some pretty key differences.

Floyd was a defensive wizard right from the start and he had to learn how to become a great offensive fighter to go along with it. That took some time for Floyd.

Broner is the other way around... He seems like a naturally gifted offensive fighter who is forcing himself to become defensively sound. This was a mismatch from the start, but Escobedo landed some clean punches along the way that Floyd would have NEVER gotten caught with cleanly even early in his career against that caliber a fighter.

However, Broner is also a better offensive fighter than Floyd was at this stage. He puts his legs behind his shots and really commits to every punch. He was showing some absolutely brilliant body work last night.

I see him as a bit of a combination of Floyd and RJJ... Which makes for a pretty damn exciting fighter if he can put it all together. I do think that his defense is a bit overrated and that he will get caught with the kinds of punches that Floyd never did. His chin still really hasn't been tested and it will as he moves up in weight.

He seems to rely on his natural athleticism a lot more than Floyd ever has and, while that will make him the kind of KO fighter that the general public adores, it will also leave him open occasionally to the kind of danger that could threaten to destroy his aura of invincibility.

He needs to stop imitating his persona, but as far as boxing goes, he is a real bright spot for the future of the sport. He may well be the best young fighter in the world. I just need him to step up a little bit in his competition to know for sure.

Bronner defense reminds me of that middle weight who was cut and chisled like Tyson. He had some serious power but didnt move his head enough and eat quite a bit of leather. Anyone know who I am talkin about?

I saw Bronner try to imitate Floyd defense and he simply wasnt rolling those punches like Floyd. Most of the time his defense was standing in one place trying to block it with his arms/gloves. Might work for that class, but not if he moves up.

Not to say his defense cant improve it was just something I noticed.

Edit: Jeff Lacy

He will never be on the level of a Floyd Mayweather with his defense, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing because few boxers will ever reach that standard. I know what you are saying, though.

I feel like he is caught in-between styles. On one hand, he wants to be flashy and never get touched cleanly like Floyd. On the other hand, he wants to be able to throw 4-5 punch combinations with every shot coming at full power. You literally can't do both of those things.

In order to throw with power, you have to stand with leverage and drive your shots through your opponent. In order to avoid power shots coming from the other direction, you have to be cautious enough not to leave yourself open for counters and be ready to change levels/position when necessary.

He needs to decide on what he is going to be and go with it... A power punching phenom who can just out-athlete a guy the way that RJJ used to, which dictates a lot of reliance on reflexes to get out of the way... Or, become a technically sound boxer who knows when to throw a power shot and when to hold back a bit in favor of protecting himself.

Can't be both. He has the natural athleticism and skill to be a superstar in boxing, but he needs to decide on what kind of fighter he will be first.

He's a lot more skilled and talented than Lacy ever was, btw.

excellent points

As for the Floyd imitation, its disturbingly accurate. Like you said, he should stop that or change it up noticeably because its a bad look....kid looks like the ultimate swagger-jacker.

But yea he is very talented.

Broner's too big for Gamboa.

If it were ever to happen, it needs to happen right now because they are as close in weight class as they will ever be. Still, Broner is probably going to be a natural welterweight in his prime, whereas Gamboa is a 30-year-old featherweight.

Would be fun, though.

Heres my take on Adrian Broner. He's a good young boxer, future star if everything goes his way. He's a character, which boxing needs and more importantly, he's entertaining in the ring. I like that he's more offensive than defensive. Maybe that hurts him the long run but sure makes him more fan friendly.

But let's stop with the Floyd comparisons. At that stage of his career, Floyd was beating up quality competition like Emmanuel Augustus, Diego Corales and JL Castillo. Broner has fought a bunch of nobodies.

I cant say I was impressed with that farce of a fight last Saturday. He didn't even bother to try to make weight. At least Brandon Rios' fat ass made weight the next day, Broner couldn't even do that. As for his performance, he did what a fighter with a huge weight advantage should have done.

I hope this kid starts fighting good competition soon. No more safe fights, unless it's a tune up.
