Team USA ends up with 0 medals in boxing. Worst they've ever done. But there was definitely some atrocious judging

Errol Spence gets a second life in the Olympics after his loss vs Krishan Vikas is overturned!

USA still has a chance to medal. If they don't it will be the first time they ever miss out of meddling on Olympic boxing.

It took him a long time to overcome that stigma, but he finally did carve out his own place in league history and wasn't just looked at as a Fugazi.

Broner has even taken it a few steps beyond the Kobe/Jordan thing. He literally is trying to be a carbon copy... Right down to his facial expressions. It is a little creepy. He needs to make his own way in this sport and, quite honestly, he has too much potential to be relegated to a cheap knockoff of an all-time great.

He could be a real superstar in the game, but I think in order to really capture the public's attention, he is going to have to deviate from his current persona a bit. People don't like knockoffs... They like to feel like they are watching a one of a kind talent.

All of that said, he does have an interesting fighting style. Of course, on the outset, he looks like he is just using Floyd's version of the Philly Shell, but there are some pretty key differences.

Floyd was a defensive wizard right from the start and he had to learn how to become a great offensive fighter to go along with it. That took some time for Floyd.

Broner is the other way around... He seems like a naturally gifted offensive fighter who is forcing himself to become defensively sound. This was a mismatch from the start, but Escobedo landed some clean punches along the way that Floyd would have NEVER gotten caught with cleanly even early in his career against that caliber a fighter.

However, Broner is also a better offensive fighter than Floyd was at this stage. He puts his legs behind his shots and really commits to every punch. He was showing some absolutely brilliant body work last night.

I see him as a bit of a combination of Floyd and RJJ... Which makes for a pretty damn exciting fighter if he can put it all together. I do think that his defense is a bit overrated and that he will get caught with the kinds of punches that Floyd never did. His chin still really hasn't been tested and it will as he moves up in weight.

He seems to rely on his natural athleticism a lot more than Floyd ever has and, while that will make him the kind of KO fighter that the general public adores, it will also leave him open occasionally to the kind of danger that could threaten to destroy his aura of invincibility.

He needs to stop imitating his persona, but as far as boxing goes, he is a real bright spot for the future of the sport. He may well be the best young fighter in the world. I just need him to step up a little bit in his competition to know for sure.

Honestly I don't think his talent comes near Floyd in any aspect of boxing. I mean Floyd is one of the best jr. lightweights of all time. At 130-135 Floyd was faster than Broner, had similar power(could easily have the same power if he threw 1 punch at a time like Broner), had 10x the footwork, had 100x the defense, better timing, changed levels much better, better angles, bigger gas tank, better technique, much tighter with everything, and you said that Broner was better offensively than Floyd at similar stages but I disagree...Floyd could close distance much much faster due to his footwork, better timing, has longer reach, faster hands, similar power when he sat on his punches, better combos, Broner doesn't even throw combos that are more than 2 punches, bigger arsenal of punches, and better counterpunching.

Kobe vs. Jordan is a pretty good comparison, but everyone knew Kobe had the skills, pedigree, and work ethic from the beginning. I just don't think Broner is cut from the same cloth as Floyd. Hopefully he proves me wrong b/c boxing needs someone like him.

Never once said that Broner is on Floyd's level as a fight. I hope that isn't the way the post you quoted came off, because I don't believe that to be the case.

Floyd was having major problems with his hands at 130-35, though. That and a more defensive-minded approach left him with very little power. He actually has a lot more power in his 140-54 days than he did at 130-35. While his hands are always at least a small concern, they are less of an issue now as compared to his lightweight years.

Broner has fast hands, nice power (not great, but nice) and is a gifted natural athlete which mainly shows through in his reflexes.

Is he Floyd Mayweather Jr.? Hell no. Probably will never be close to Floyd as a fighter. But he is probably the guy I'd point to out of the young crop coming up as having the most star power.

Damn I forgot about his hands, the last thing I remember about that is when the xylocaine hand injection thing blew up. I'm not sure how he took care of that problem so well, it can't just be the bigger gloves...He was still a monster back then tough, much higher KO/TKO ratio than now, naturally. But I think Broner is going to have problems when he moves up and doesn't have a physical advantage.

How do you think he would do against the 140lbers? That's where I want to see him fight.

Obviously, lots of interesting matchups are there for him at 140. There's no doubt that he is headed there. It is just a matter of when. Obviously, you have the big name guys like Bradley and Alexander (both of whom could fight at 140 tomorrow if the matchup was right)... Khan, JMM and Peterson.

Any of those fights would be a real test for Broner and we could really see what he is made of.

But, that isn't all at 140. Other Broner fights that could be really interesting include Matthysse or Maidana. Hell, Danny Garcia would be a challenge. The 140-pound division is loaded.

It looks like he is going to spend some time at 135, though, before going up to junior welter. Maybe he will go against Vazquez, Molina, DeMarco?

One that would have been really interesting at 135 would have been Broner-Valero. Unfortunately, Valero ended up being a psychotic murderer.

Another really really really good prospect @ 140 to look out for is Jose Benavidez...20 years old, trained by Roach, long amateur career(very important), tall and rangy, fast, good patience, goes to the body, fights behind his jab a lot, good boxer-puncher. He fights how Khan should fight.

Don't follow boxing that closely. What the hell happened to US Boxing? Seems worse with each passing Olympics.
