Post Players who exceeded your expectations

In honor of get these NETS's thread, I thought I'd take a quick stab in the other direction and ask who are some of the players, whether they be superstars or not, that surpassed your expectations since they came into the league?

Dwyane Wade: I thought Carmelo and LeBron were the clear cut best players in that draft and already had either them locked for R.O.Y. I had heard of Wade and watched him play some great ball in the NCAA tourney, but I just saw him being a solid two guard maybe good for 18 ppg at his peak. I thought he was a little too short to make prolonged, effective, fearless drives to the basket.... Dude was a certified stud as soon as he stepped in the league and after he hit that gamewinner against New Orleans in the playoffs, I had a feeling he'd be special. Still, to see him now on (arguably) better or at least equal footing with the aforementioned '03 front runners shocks me because I just didn't see him rising to the top of the league the way he has.

Will Bynum: Not an All-Star or anything, but I just pegged him as another bum Joe D had taken a shine to. The Pistons' roster has been littered with them over the years; they play garbage time for a year or two then disappear into the abyss. I was pleasantly surprised to see Will was quick, a great ballhandler and leaper, and knifes to rim so easily for a guy his size. He can score in bunches, he brings great energy when he's on the floor and he's fearless. He can get a little reckless and he's best as a backup, but he completely trumped my assumptions.

Some other notables are Shannon Brown, Serge Ibaka and Kevin Love. Brown and Ibaka have become great niche role players on championship contenders and what Love did this past year speaks for itself. I could throw Kobe in to a degree, as well. I thought what we saw from him in '02-'04 was his ceiling and he, of course, racked up 2 championships, 2 scoring titles and an MVP since. \_(ツ)_/

Completely agree about Kevin Love. I didn't think he'd be better than a rotation 20 mpg big guy.

LaMarcus Aldridge too. I thought he was just soft jump shooting PF and kinda was that but last year he proved to be a top PF.

Somewhat Jason Richardson. I thought he was a chucker with Charlotte and when he got traded to Phoenix he really proved me wrong (although, we'll never know if it was him or Nash making him so much better). He regressed in Orlando, but I blame Van Gundy for that.

I also thought Deng was set to be a scrub his leg injury... I was very wrong.

Agreed.

Still isn't much in terms of skill.

But effective through hustle.

Chris Paul. At the time I thought that he was going to be another Mateen Cleaves caliber player, great in college but ineffective in the league.

Oh, yea L.A. was a guy I left out. I always thought he had potential, but didn't really see him extending beyond being a solid, albeit somewhat soft faceup PF. Dude got robbed out of an All-Star spot this year and it's amazing to see him adjust with the offensive focus shifting more towards him and off of Roy.

Never in a million years did I think Kobe would turn out to be the player he is today. I thought he would be great, but he exceeded all of my expectations.

I have to also give props to Rose, great work ethic.

Yeah I agree. He transitioned to PG well. I saw Steph becoming a similar version of Chris Jackson (Abdul Rauf).

In addition, Steph played against or weaker comp (take away a few games when he played Duke or some other top ranked team). He put up great numbers at Davidson but I still had some doubt.

I was wrong about him.

Kevin Love. Two years after the Bargs, Morrison and Redick disasters, i thought every white dude coming out was going to be overhyped. He proved me wrong over and over again.

Kevin Love! Exceeded my expectations more than any player in the NBA ever probably. Whats even more mindbogling to me is how his ridicilous numbers have no impact on his team, maybe there is huge impact but we cant notice considering his teammates might be that kindof major scrubs?
