Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey has emerged as the clear favorite to land the Toronto Raptors' coaching job and could be installed as the team's new coach by next week, according to sources close to the situation.

...Toronto has since zeroed in on Casey after interviews with both men this week, drawn largely to Casey's success as the defensive coordinator for a Mavericks team that just won the first championship in franchise history.

Casey's reputation as a defensive guru undoubtedly appeals to the Raptors...

The Mavs played unbelievable defense this year and while it has alot to do with Chandler, Stevens and the like as well, I'd be pumped to have him as our coach and see what he can do. If the move was coupled with trading our softer pieces away in an attempt to get more defensive-minded players it would be even better.

IMO we should build on the Mavs model and have a starting 5 of all defensive-minded players for now to establish the right culture and just hope a couple years of tanking will result in drafting a superstar level offensive tallent like Dirk to get us the points we need. Then you just fill out your bench with some more offensive punch to complement your star and Bob's your uncle, NBA championship. Much easier said than done, but it all starts with establishing yourselves as a defensive team, which can be done this offseason if the right moves are made and we draft the right guy.
