I would say 2002, but that competition was SUPER weak and he wsn't the number 1 option. Magic had good interior defense, and strong defenders at Bryant's position. Courtney Lee and Michael Pietrus are no joke.
Plus his game 1, complete with the Mamba scowl where he dropped 40 / 8 / 8 ... and left the game fairly early =

Kobe stat-padded like a MF in that game

He didn't leave early at all really. Even with the Lakers up 25+ in the 4th he kept shooting and shooting to pad that point total. I believe that's the only time he's ever scored 40 points in the Finals and it took him something like 35 shots to do it. It's a shame that was the way he had to go about it.
